Jay Bellamy and John Carney

this is a discussion within the Saints Community Forum; I thought he played well during his time in the starting lineup. Should he be brought back next year, or will Harper's return (as well as a youth movement in general) spell the end for him? Also, what about John ...

Also, what about John Carney? He had a hell of a year, but does he return next year?

Its not just over the top its also whith in 10 yards... ya just throw in his direction. He doesn't close on the WR, never in position to even break up a short pass. If he was getting beat down the field all the time I would say yet he needs help... but it doesn't matter when and where you put the ball he can't cover.

I don't see a point in us carrying two kickers like we did last year. We're better off using it on a position player who can help us on special teams. I don't expect Cundiff to be with us next season but I can see us keeping Carney for one more year.

My feeling is Bellamy will probably see what's in the open market. If there is a team willing to give him a good shot at being at least a 2nd string player, he would probably jump on it. I think his best shot in New Orleans is going to be the same type of situation he was in this year, which was injury insurance.

I don't think Carney is going anywhere. However, things could get interesting. Carney's chances may depend on the punter. If Berger is back next year, then Carney is absolutely safe. If Weatherford is the guy, he must show during the off season that he can handle kickoffs.

Mason Crosby has a ton of experience against top competition, having kicked for the past four years for Colorado in the Big Twelve. He has an extremely strong leg with the ability to kick field goals up to 60 yards, as well as kick the ball through the endzone on kickoffs in a regular basis. He is an accurate kicker who is nearly automatic from 40 yards and in, making 39 of 43 career attempts from less than 40 yards. As expected, his accuracy goes down a bit beyond 40 yards, but he has been successful on 19 of 27 career attempts between 40-49 yards including 13 of 16 the past two years. He is 13 of 25 in his career from 50 yards or more but several of those misses have come from distances greater than 60 yards. His career long is 60 yards. Mason Crosby has a rare combination of leg strength and accuracy for a kicker. He is arguably the best kicker to come out of college since former first round pick Sebastian Janikowski in 2000. He will be a day one starter as a place kicker and kickoff specialist by the team that drafts him. He will be a first day pick in the 2007 NFL draft.

bit the bullet and pick this kid.

as for bellemy he is up there in years i agree but i can remember some here yelling for him play when the others were playing bad. he is a run stuffer and we all new that at the begining of the year. maybe that is why we had 7 S in camp last year. we might just see those numbers again this year.

RE: Re: RE: Jay Bellamy and John Carney

Mason Crosby is who I would definitely go for. The guy has a boot of steel, a Janikowski type kicker, except with more accuracy and can shake the pressure off with ease like Vinatieri

Bye Bye Bellamy. He'd be outta here, he and Thomas both suck and can't do anything but mess the team up now.

Allsaints, you're totally wrong. Bullocks can catch, just needs to mature and get focused, something DH went through early on in his career. He can play the pass very well, especially if he didn't have a weak CB getting beat on every play!
