Sure, one unlucky hit could sideline anyone, but apart from the shoulder injury in 05, Brees has been surprisingly injury free. Just look at guys like Peyton Manning or Brett Favre, their backups come and go all the time.

I'm not saying we can't use a good backup QB, but to hear people talk about trading a midround pick for Carr is a bit absurd. Grab someone late, or a FA, and develop him. That Tony Romo guy seemed to work out ok and he went undrafted. Guys like Tyler Palko, Chris Leak, Jordan Palmer, or Jared Zabransky will all be available in the mid to late rounds. There will also be more than a few free agents that could be worth a look. No need to burn a draft pick on a guy who has never really shown anything special besides crazy toughness and a big contract.

Since the coaches were able to find immediate starters in the second, fourth and seventh rounds (Roman Harper, Jahri Evans, and Marques Colston) as well as solid depth and contributers in the fifth and seventh (Rob Ninkovich and Zach Strief) I would much rather them hold onto those picks and use them to address immediate needs, like linebacker and corner. No, I don't see another 7th round wunderkind like Colston emerging, but with that many picks and a scouting staff that seems to be pretty good at what it does, I'm sure they can find at least 2 or 3 good contributers.
