I was looking at the chargers when the saints were picking and all I could say was reachingggg. Knowing the Pats were going to go WR with there second pick and Robert Meachem was the only WR value left I thought I would hear Trade. Tuff pick. I would have reach a bit higher and gone Anthony Gonzalez, but G Kris Dielman is expected to leave as a free agent. So the pick fills a need. Why Grubbs over Blalock? just wondering.
The bears get the 3rd best true OT in the draft. reach but another good one.

That's very good value for a Meachem pick. Remember Kiel is in some legal trouble and the other spot is unsettled also with McCree/Jue. I was thinking Meachem, Meriweather, or Wendling. Ryan Kalil in the second round will be a steal for someone... he will be an all pro guard.

If Dielman does in fact leave, Grubbs is the top rated guard in the draft by many and then it makes more sense to me. You can't go wrong addressing either side of the line... safe pick.

To me personally, I think it's weird drafting guards in the first round. Guards are easy to develop and you can always find solid NFL starters in the 3rd - 5th rounds.

I know the San Diego Chargers need WR & S, many of them got selected earlier and also you can not pass up some one like Grubbs he can play OG/OT.
I was thinking of safety B. Meriweather - Miami & WR A. Gonzalez - Ohio State but like i said i could not pass up Grubbs he will be a force for OL.

32 Indianapolis Colts - Stewart Bradley - OLB, 6-4, 250, 4.75, Nebraska
Rob Morris played the last month of the regular season, along with the postseason, out of position and is set to become a free agent. He is a poor fit in the Cover-Two defense. Stewart Bradley is 6-4, 245-pound and will provide a physical run-stopping presence at the SAM linebacker spot, while possessing the athleticism to play the perimeter and cover opposing receivers. Bradley missed the final seven games of the 2005 season after he suffered a knee injury against Texas Tech in game five, so injuries are a concern. He was one of the true surprise players in Mobile, this former Cornhusker has excellent size, speed and athletic ability.

Draft results
Round 1
1 Oakland Raiders - Joe Thomas, OT, 6 - 8, 315, 5.05, Wisconsin
I like Andrew Walter, and I think he can actually play. I would put Gallery at RT, Thomas at LT. Plus, I love a team with a strong O-line and D-line...Not to mention they will probably pick up Marques contract and bring in someone in the later rounds. Walters college career was a really good one, shattering records held by Hall Of Famers.
zachsaints52

2 Houston - Jamarcus Russell, QB, 6.6, 260, 4.75, LSU
Houston gives up on Carr, after Oakland passes on Russell, they have to pull the trigger. Texans fans will be calling for some heads if they dont do something big, so here it is.....
saintsfan1313
Houston traded the #8 pick and David Carr to Detroit for the #2 pick

3 Cleveland Browns - Calvin Johnson, WR, 6 - 4, 235, 4.45, GT
The Browns have other needs, especially on defense. Johnson has a size/speed combination never before seen. Plus Johnson has great hands. Johnson would start immediately and give Charlie frye or FA a huge target.
saintsjam

4 Tampa Bay Buccaneers - Alan Branch, DT, 6 - 6, 325, 5.00, Michigan
well tampa really needs help on d... If thomas or calvin johnson were available they would have been the logical picks. but yeah tampa is hurting on defense and branch is a versatile lineman that would have and impact immediately. so he was the only logical choice since i don't think they need to take a quarterback since they have simms, gradkowski, and rattay. a safety would be nice, but it's a little too high for landry.

bulldog1865

5 Arizona Cardinals - Gaines Adams, DE, 6-5, 260, 4.59, Clemson
The Cardinals are stacked at the offensive skill positions but are in serious need of help along the offensive line. With Joe Thomas off the board and Levi Brown being a reach at this point, Arizona turns their attention to the defensive side of the ball. With Chike Okeafor and Bertrand Berry both having battled injuries in recent years, the Cardinals could use some help along the defensive line. Gaines Adams is arguably the best defensive prospect in the draft and would significantly increase the level of production from the defensive end position.

Hagan714 for Theduce
Theduce "Gaines Adams was a good pick though hagan, that's who I would have gone with. Originally, I would have selected Joe Thomas to shore up that OLine in order to open up holes for Edge and give Leinart some time, but he was taken. And then I also think that Branch is a better prospect, but he too was taken"

6 Washington Redskins - Brady Quinn, QB, 6 - 4, 231, 4.70, Notre Dame
The Redskins have been hurting at the QB position for several years now. Quinn should be in the running for the starting QB position next season with Jason Williams. Jason Williams shows some promise but seems to make errors at crucial points during the game. This selection will also give the Redskins options if they want to trade one away later for a run stuffing DT or sack monster DE.
CheramieIII

7 Minnesota Vikings - Adrian Peterson, RB, 6 - 1.5, 215, 4.45, Oklahoma.
As pseudo-GM of the Vikings, I had to run this pick by my wife. She is a Vikings fan and I felt that she should have the final say on the pick. Because of her, I get to see a lot of the Vikings games over the course of the season.
The Vikings D is great and they simply need to do a better job of controlling the ball and keep their defense off the field. The Vikings are going to need a better rushing attack to take the pressure off of QB's Brad Johnson and Tavaris Jackson and keep 3rd downs managable. Sure, the Vikes need a WR, but why pick one now when you can wait til the end of the 7th round . And I think current Viking RB Chester Taylor was overworked last year. He needs a runner backing him up that could physically wear down the defense. Peterson fits the bill perfectly and gives the Vikings the 1-2 punch at RB that is now popular in the NFL. The day of the feature back is dying - and overuse cost guys like Terrell Davis, Jamal Anderson and Priest Holmes their careers. The Vikings could have a great OL and Peterson is scratching the surface of his ability. And pairing him w/ Taylor will hopefully keep him healthy. Divison-wise, the Colts showed the Vikings that the best way to beat the Bears is to run at them. And we know the Packers and Lions can be run on.
neugey

8 Detroit Lions - Levi Brown, OT, 6 - 5.3, 323, 5.25, Penn St.
Jamaal Anderson was very tempting but protecting Carr is priority #1.
Its very simple, I need someone to protect Carr's blind side. If yall remember Martz's offenses during his time at the Rams, Kurt Warner (when he played a full season) got sacked 29 times in 1999, 38 times in 2001 during those seasons he totaled 4353 yds, 41 tds in 1999 and 4830 yds, 36 tds in 2001. I know Kitna threw for 4000 yds, but threw 21 ints, and Carr didnt throw that many picks despite the fact he was running for his life in every pass play.

fhs623

9 Miami Dolphins - Ted Ginn Jr., 6 - 0, 175, 4.39, WR, Ohio State
This guy will stretch the field for the Dolphins. Chambers has never really developed into the play maker we all hoped for and Boston and Booker, well need I say more. This Phins have had alot of other pretenders at WR but this guy is the real deal. The Dolphins have to give Culpepper at least one more season don't they and maybe some weaspons too. This guy is the weapon they have been looking for.
CheramieIII

10. Atlanta Falcons LaRon Landry S 6 - 1.5, 204, 4.45 LSU
What a tough choice. Jamaal Anderson, Dwayne Jarrett, LaRon Landry or Reggie Nelson.
With DE Patrick Kerney a free-agent and John Abraham often injured, DE could also be a pressing need. Anderson has the potential to grow into a dominating force at DE, as he can play both the run and pass at 6-6, 280 pounds. Still somewhat raw, Anderson has the potential to become a special pass-rusher at the next level, and could even fit in as a 3-4 DE because of his size. But he is a player who is somewhat under the radar till this point. I will call this the Mario effect and pass on him.
Dwayne Jarrett god knows Atlanta needs hands but not here.....If Ted Ginn Jr was here I think that would be the pick
The team really thought bringing in Lawyer Milloy would fix that problem. But Lawyer (33) has been a bust, 0 interceptions and 2 sacks. Their other starter is Crocker who is below average in coverage and wouldn't start on many teams. Then do you go with a play maker like Nelson over the Hitter in Landry. After drating 2 play making coners and the questions at LB and DT they go for the hitter.
Hagan714 for TheDuce

11 San Francisco 49ers Dwayne Jarrett WR 6 - 5, 210, 4.5 USC
Tuff pick with the needs on Defense espically at CB and DL but they go with USC’s, Dwayne Jarrett a prolific college WR with a bright future. Jarrett has good speed and hands and at 6'5 will create problems for opposing DB's. Alex Smith and Frank Gore are smiling now that they have a true # 2 WR to go with Battle, Bryant and Davis. The Impact Players on Offense is now done.
Hagan714for Blackandgold
Blackandgold "Pick was perfect. I can't imagine Jarrett sliding that far, but if he does, it would make sense that the 49ers grab him."

12 Buffalo Bills Jamaal Anderson DT, 6 - 6, 280, 4.80, Arkansas
Anderson drops to a salavating Bills team in need of big play Defense, they now find that lining up on the opposite end of Aaron Schobel. Having 2 pass rushing DEs will help out the pass D in the event of a Nate Clements departure. This selection is a rare need and best available pick. The Bills recieved a true prize here with Anderson falling out of the top ten. Anderson will add sure tackling hands to a poor Bills defense whose top tacklers are in their secondary.
Mighty12 for Papz
Papz "Anderson is the BPA at 12 and would have been very tough to pass up. There are holes everywhere on the Bills 28th ranked rush defense and while Kelsay is a solid player, Anderson is is a gamebreaker on defense."

13 St. Louis Rams Patrick Willis, LB, 6 - 1, 240, 4.60, Ole Miss

You knew what Haslet would do! He's done it several times with the Saints, but unlike other draft picks at linebacker in the recent past, he gets a winner this time. This guy is fast and doesn't miss many tackles. At 6'2", 235lbs. He could even put on a few more pounds and still not lose any speed. Great vision sideline to sideline. This guy will be a great linebacker in the NFL for years to come.
CheramieIII

14 Carolina Panthers Lawrence Timmons OLB 6 - 2.5, 230, 4.49, Florida St.

Carolina lost Morgan to injuries, lost Witherspoon as a FA last year, and all but one Lbs are FA. Panthers' linebacking corp only has one guy under contract (thomas davis), and he's a converted safety.I was considering Bowe, but Keyshawn Johnson isn't 100% sure he's going to retire and this year's WR class is pretty deep, which a guy like Buster Davis or a Anthony Gonzalez can be picked up in the 2nd rd....Timmons may be a bit raw, but the Panthers have the coaches to turn Timmons into a star.
fhs623

15. Pittsburgh Steelers - Darrelle Revis, CB, 6 - 0, 200, 4.40 Pittsburgh
Has the ability to develop into an elite shutdown corner at the next level.Displays great instincts. Hits like a safety. Is equally comfortable in any defensive style. Can bump and run, or man up with the best in college football. Great natural athlete with very good speed. Ideal size for the position. Has deadly potential as a return man. Explosive, smooth. Good backpedal. Solid footwork. Plays nasty with an aggressive streak. Very competitive. Loves to hit. Models himself after Ty Law and Champ Bailey. Hometown kid

Hagan714 for D24

16 Green Bay Packers - Leon Hall, CB, 5'11", 193 lbs, 4.50, Michigan
The Packers have two guys over 30 starting at cornerback, and one of them isn’t happy with his contract. Not to mention, finishing near the bottom of the league, in pass defense. This would be a great start, to building a play off ready defense, considering, for the most part, the defensive side of the ball has been what's keeping them out of it.
Hall is physical enough to play with the big receivers, yet quick and able enough to cover the quick receivers. Excels in zone coverage, and is very good at man-to-man. He's a smart and very fluid athlete without a major hole in his game. Hall can come up and support the run well and is an excellent blizter. Being paired up with Walt Harris, should make the Packers, a more formidable defensive secondary.
saintpaul25

17 Jacksonville Jaguars - Amobi Okoye - DT - 6 - 2, 287, 5.20, Louisville
The kid is just 19...the Jags needs a quick DT....I believe this kid will develope into a great player one day. He started playing NACC foolball at the age of 16. He is aggressive and a large body.He has alot to learn, but from what I have read, he is a quick learner.
flacajun

18 Cincinnati Bengals - DeMarcus Tyler, DT, 6 - 2, 323, 5.10, NC State
You could probably pick any defensive position here and upgrade the defense, so we will start up front. Tyler should have no problem taking over Thornton's position on the defensive line
SaintsJam

19 Tennessee Titans Dwayne Bowe Sr., WR, 6 - 2, 222, 4.55, LSU

I'm sure most of you have seen a fair share of him already. His stock has been on the rise after a good senior year and an impressive senior bowl week. They also look at Rice and Meachem, but are more than happy to have Bowe here at 19. Dwayne gives Vince a WR that should be able to contribute right away. This was an offense on the rise last year with the emergence of VY despite not having a go to WR.
tapout

20 New York Giants - Reggie Nelson, S, 6 - 0, 200, 4.40, Florida
Neither Will Demps or Gibril Wilson are special players so Nelson with great size and speed for the position is the impact safety missing. He is lean and muscular with the frame to continue to add bulk. He plays with excellent speed and quickness on the field and really explodes on the ball instinctually. Once the ball is in the air, he shows great leaping ability and excellent hands to pluck the ball from the air. He's also a physical player who seems to enjoy laying the lumber. He's a leader on and off the field and is a hard worker
Hagan 714 for pakowitz

21. Denver Broncos - Adam Carriker, DE, 6-5, 295, 4.88, Nebraska
Mike Shanahan is still trying to make his line of ex-Browns work, but it's just not happening. Having a liability like that up front puts undue pressure on what are very good linebacking and secondary corps. While the addition of Elvis Dumervil provided an unexpected boost in situational pass rushing, Denver needs a talented athlete to provide pressure every down.Carriker has an impressive combination of size, strength and agility which allows him to apply pressure to the quarterback, while taking on multiple blockers. He added more than 10 pounds of muscle to his 6-6 frame increasing his weight to 295 pounds. While adding the weight, Carriker improved his 10 and 40-yard dash times. His stature could allow Carriker to move inside to tackle on passing downs if needed. Has an incredible motor. Used Mobile and the Senior Bowl to show he isn't a one-dimensional or one-set (3-4) player. Denver needs to get younger along the edges and finding a large prospect like Carriker is a steal
Hagan714 for AllSaints

22 Dallas Cowboys - Michael Griffin, S, 5-11, 195, 4.48
Griffin is a prototypical NFL cover safety. He has excellent ball skills for the position and good recovery speed with good leaping ability, allowing him to make plays on the ball in deep coverage. Taking the correct path to the ball carrier, allows him to play faster than his timed speed and he is a solid, willing tackler. With above-average agility and acceleration for a free safety allows him the ability to cover slot receivers in man-to-man. Add to this is an excellent special teams player, showing the same quality of play at safety and combine that with fantastic timing and instincts, you have numerous blocked punts.
Hagan714-Papz

23 Kansas City Chiefs - Sidney Rice, WR, 6-3, 195, 4.55, S. Carolina
In my mind, Rice is one of the more underrated wide receivers, maybe even overall players, in the draft. You know that you're doing something right when a sophomore season of 72 catches and 10 touchdowns is considered a disappointment. Rice has ideal height and elite body control and ball skills. If he'd have been playing with a real quarterback last season he could have caught 100 passes.
Hagan714-pakowitz

24. New England Patriots - Charles Johnson, DE 6-2, 271, 4.75, Georgia

Johnson's potential is somewhat limited by his below-average height and pedestrian top-end speed. However, he is a powerful and quick defensive end with good toughness versus the run and a relentless approach as a pass rusher. Maybe a transition player DE/LB. He is a Bellicheck player with his raw talent and being undersized
mighty12

25 New York Jets - Anthony Spencer, DE/LB, 6-3, 262, 4.70, Purdue
Jonathan Abraham's pass rush hasn't been adequately replaced, and a third-down pass rusher would be a big addition. Spencer is a pass rush extraordinaire. Makes up ground in a hurry and always is near the ball. High motor and plays at 110%. At this point looks to be a 4-3 end, but will workout as a linebacker as well. 2006 Team MVP and All Big 10 selection, Spencer had his coming out party in 2006 wreaking havoc in backfields.
BlackandBlue

26 Philadelphia Eagles - Troy Smith QB . 6'1, 215. Ohio State
With McNabb's health and Garcia's availablity in question, Smith is an ideal choice for the Eagles. The Heisman trophy winner is unafraid, dangerous on the run and has an accurate, strong arm. If Troy Smith can prove to be a great pro quarterback, he's definately heir to the throne.

redjem25

27 New Orleans Saints - Paul Posluszny, LB, 6-2, 238, 4.65, Penn State
A tremendous college player, maybe the best Penn St LB of all time, is a sideline to sideline a tackling machine with great instincts and a nose for the football. Plays faster than he times. Always knows where the ball is and gets to it. Excellent technique and wrap up and rarely misses tackles. His measurables may leave a little to be desired (he got hurt last year, he is not very big and his speed is something that needs to be verified) but his Unrivaled character and leadership skills are not an issue. Being named Penn State's captain as a junior, which is rarely done, and one of two college players to win the Butkus award twice, make him a solid value. I think Poz maybe a bit of an overachiever, so a move to ILB is on the horizon for Poz, as he may lack the speed needed to be an OLB at the next level. His inability to shed blocks is his only weakness. Which can still be learned. The Saints defense gets the leader the in the middle they have missed for so many years. That should by all accounts be a pro bowler for years to come.

by committee

28 New England Patriots - Robert Meachem, 6-3, 210, 4.45, WR, Tennesse.

All I have to say about this selection is that the Pats NEED a WR, and I was hoping Bowe or Jarrett would fall, but Meachem is a beast also. If anyone watched that Tenn. vs. Cal game at the start of the season, you know that he tourched that whole team. I think this will become a go to guy for Tom Brady

mighty12

29 Baltimore Ravens - Marshawn Lynch, RB, 5-11, 217, 4.40, California
Ladies and gentleman, talk about a steal... this was a gift sent from God to the Ravens. Ever since Jamal Lewis rushed for 2000 yards in 2003, he was never the same after. He's no longer the gamebreaker he once was and now is considered just an average NFL starter. Lynch has all the qualities you would want in a number one back. He fast, athletic, good hands, and most importantly, he changes games. Just like the Deuce McAllister and Randy Moss pick in the past, teams will look back at this draft and wonder how the heck did this top 10 talent fall so low in the draft.

Pretty much a no-brainer here... the Ravens need to free cap room in attempt to re-sign Thomas and they find Lewis' successor. Great value pick and I think the only other option would be to select a cornerback. Rolle regressed last year after signing such a big contract and is about to be on the wrong sign of 30, but they'll find his successor in the second round where corners are coming a dime a dozen.

papz

30 San Diego Chargers Ben Grubbs G 6-3/318/- Auburn

The offensive guard position isn’t a desperate need, but it would probably be a good idea to add depth at the position. Behind starting guards Kris Dielman and Mike Goff, there isn’t much in terms of talent or quality support. Also, Goff will turn thirty-one in the near future, making it a good idea for the Chargers to bring in depth for the offensive line.

faldhamen

31 Chicago Bears Joe Staley OT 6-5/305/4.70 Central Michigan .

The Offensive line needs some one like J. Staley to dominate the line and open holes to more smash football style and protect the QB in the passing downs.
