Wow, this is great news! This guy is definitely an upgrade and he can play the middle, so.... Fujita, Simmons, and Shanle? Not too shabby. Geaux Saints!!!!

I like it. I want to see the price so I can be even more excited, but it looks like we are setting up the Pats defense from 2000-2001 when, if you can remember that far back*SARCASM ALERT*, the Pats won the Super Bowl without a bunch of big name defenders.

I just had a feeling when Cincy released him that he was going to be a Saint.

Would have really preferred Porter, but I'll take what they give me.

Anything is better than Simoneau...

Is anyone else concerned that we're getting a guy on the downside of his career, as opposed to a player whose career is ascending, like we got with Fujita?

Simmons' age, 31, means he'll only be around a season or two more, I'm betting. Plus he was fifth on the team in tackles. Danny Clark was first in tackles when he was with the Raiders.

thoughts?

He only played 11 games. I'm not worried at all Simmons will rebound and perform like he did pre-Marvin Lewis era in Cincy. He started declining as soon as Lewis took over and just didn't fit their system. I think he's a very good fit here.

He's a good character guy and a veteran. He may be in the twilight of his career, but he helps to solidify the LB corp and gives felxibility in the draft to take the BAP and not reach for a specific position.

IMO a solid signing, now let's shore up the secondary and start talking about the draft.
