Most of it on special teams I would say he is not that bad.His cap #'s for 2006 was $661,280. So the price was right I bet.

Evans

The New Orleans Saints, who seem to always be trying to bolster their depth at linebacker, have added another veteran player at the position, signing unrestricted free agent Troy Evans, who spent the last five seasons with the Houston Texans.

A versatile defender and proven special teams contributor, Evans signed a two-year contract worth $1.3 million, and the deal includes a $100,000 signing bonus.

Evans, 29, who has played at all three linebacker positions at various junctures of his career, will vie for a backup spot on the roster. His bigger value to the Saints, however, will likely be on special teams, an area in which he had excelled.

The former University of Cincinnati standout has 71 special teams tackles and two fumble recoveries in the kicking game. From scrimmage, he has 77 tackles, one interception, one pass defensed and a fumble recovery in 72 appearances, all as a backup.

Originally signed by St. Louis as an undrafted college free agent in 2001, Evans was released by the Rams and then signed with the Texans in 2002. His most extensive playing time from scrimmage came in 2005, when injuries moved him up the depth chart.

New Orleans rebuilt its linebacker corps in '06, the first season under defensive coordinator Gary Gibbs, by adding 10 veterans through free agency and trades. The most notable addition to the unit this spring is former Cincinnati starter Brian Simmons.

A decent safe pickup.

He's suppose to be a pretty good special teams player. I thought our coverage unit was pretty weak last year... hopefully he'll be able to help out.
