Teams maneuvering to take WR Johnson, LB Willis

A league source told me the Browns "are locked in'' on taking Notre Dame quarterback Brady Quinn in their No. 3 slot. Cleveland will bypass Oklahoma running back Adrian Peterson, even though the Browns signed ex-Ravens rusher Jamal Lewis to just a one-year deal.
While Cleveland owner Randy Lerner has been in favor of Quinn for a while now, Browns general manager Phil Savage is now said to be firmly on board with the pick, even though he and head coach Romeo Crennel are entering a potentially pivotal third season running the organization. In some ways, drafting Quinn, a rookie franchise quarterback, buys Savage and Crennel more time to turn around the Browns' flagging fortunes.

brady quinn and tim couch are NOTHING alike!

brady quinn played for a big school in a pro system.

tim couch played for a small football school in a spread pass heavy system.

First off: they are both 6'4" and around 230.

Couch played in the SEC. Have you looked at ND's schedule lately? All three service academies? They beat one "decent" school last year in Penn State. USC, Michigan, Ohio State and LSU all beat them by 20+. ND is not what it used to be. Couch played UF, UGA, UT, etc...every year.

Aside from that, my point is that Couch was dropped into a crappy Browns team (and yes, I realize "crappy" and "Browns" is redundant) and was asked to start right off the bat. The pressure was too much and an otherwise talented QB folded like a cheap tent and ruined his career (see also: Leaf, Ryan). I think Quinn has all the skills needed, but that will only take a rookie QB so far. He's gotta have a coach and playmakers around him and I'm not sold on Romeo Crennell, Jamal "Hard Time" Lewis and the mediocre receiving corp in Cleveland.

Peterson is way less of a risk for the Browns.

If you need the franchise QB and one of them is available, TAKE HIM. Always take the QB. The Raiders took Huff last year, and although he is a good ballplayer, they should have taken Leinart or Cutler...and now they are picking at the top of the draft. You always take the QB when the opportunity is there.

Check out this article from ESPN about draft busts. It breaks first-round picks down by position from 89-03. Granted, the criteria for a bust is somewhat arbitrary, but over half of the first round QB's were a bust. Pretty interesting.

...and are you trying to say that Aaron Brooks is not a franchise QB?

Adrian Peterson Still Injured!

There is breaking news as Don Banks of SI.com is reporting that Oklahoma RB Adrian Peterson re-injured his collarbone in the Fiesta Bowl and will likely need surgery that'll keep him out of action for up to 3 months. In fact, he might not even be ready for the start of training camp!. This latest revelation could take him out of the running for the #3 pick and send him plummeting towards the bottom of the Top 10.
