Young....this from Scoutsinc and insider.......

• Infusing youth into the cornerback position had to be one of New Orleans' top priorities. Unfortunately for Saints' fans, the front office may have gotten caught up in the hype surrounding Usama Young who turned in an impressive 40-time. Young may be fast but he doesn't change directions particularly well and he isn't a great playmaker. Add in concerns about his ability to make the jump to the NFL after playing at Kent State and it becomes clear New Orleans reached here.

He sounds like he has alot of special teams potential and is a high character guy. Not many first year CB's have much impact other than special teams and occassional dime use. At least we got a guy who will be a quality person and is smart enough to learn into a spot. I'm content with the pick even if I concur it was a reach at the position.

could anybody tell me why sean payton and his staff choosed young, over mc cauley or fred bennett or travarous bain.

I don't search a controversy just your opinions.

thanks

My guess is that they saw more potential in Young. The kid is smart and can learn You can't teach speed and this kids got it.With the signing of our new corner from Indy we can afford to take time to teach him just like I think they're doing with Anwar Phillips from last year.

He will be on special teams while he gets bulked and coached up. We have to trust the coaches on this one. He is the make our break of Day 1 in the draft

Remember Marcus Colston

This reminds me so much of last year. Everyone saying the same thing. Ever think that maybe Sean sees in Young the type of player he wants. By the way, Young has more upside than any of the others you mention and we don't need him to play more than dime this year. Thomas isn't getting any younger. Young could be great, the others are about as good as you are going to get. Let me remind you that the NFL network is calling Young the steal of round three.

why i like these type of guys

Payton drafts guys that are reaches...
Fine.
Here's why I like these type of guys.
They always have something to prove. No matter what job you have, when someone says you're not good enough. You either quit or out perform expectations.
None of this loafing BS.
This guy will pan out or he will be gone in 3 years.

Guys, one thing to remember: It's not as hard for late round picks to make or even start for a 3-13 team, thus making the late rounds "gems" look like the scouts found lightening in a bottle. Could be a different story for a team coming out of the NFC Championship - a lot of the late rounders might not make the team. How does the draft grade then?

Yep. People question why not McCauley at CB at this spot, but perhaps they saw a guy who starred one year then the adversity of injury and a bad season for the team beat him. He was tested and failed. And from what I've read, many questioned his confidence and conviction after his 06 season. Young is a guy who has had to overcome being overlooked and made himself noticed. McCauley has done the opposite and become noticed for failing to rise to the occasion.
