times picayune grade

New Orleans Saints - Grade C-

After striking gold last year with draftees from Hofstra and Bloomsburg State, the Saints must have decided that small schools was the way to go in 2007. How else to explain taking players from Kent, Akron, Towson and mighty Division II Wingate? Young wasn't even ranked among the top 25 cornerbacks by many publications. They didn't have Bushrod or Jones either for that matter. It doesn't mean these guys are bad players. It's just that they're coming out of obscurity. Guess you don't get Reggie Bush every year. Nothing wrong with Meachem, though. He is a younger, bigger version of Joe Horn.

I hate draft grades because they never live up. NO ONE knows who will be great and who will be busts. You can pick and choose with some certainty who will start and maybe who will be good, but there is still so much that goes into being GREAT, so who flippin' cares what Times Pic, or Peter King has to say, I am going to wait it out, and watch Usama Young win Defensive rookie of the year.

Exactly- save the grade for September

as for Young, even though he from my alma mater, I don't think he will see enough snaps for ROTY, which is fine with me

The Saints drafted Young probably a little early, but you have to give them credit that they targeted their man and took him. And they drafted him because of his attitude, intelligence and work ethic. He has speed and desire and they can coach him into a role in the nickle or dime. He'll be a great special teamer until then. They wanted a guy who didn't need to be starting right away since they signed David and who is moldable and has something to prove.

I'm happier we took him over McCauley personally and after seeing last year's draft I'll reserve judgement until the season plays out for second guessing their smaller school prospects. As of now their track record earns them a pass at this point.

Draft Grades

I have to agree draft grades are gay. its very argumentative and opinonated at best. Who really cares, and who follows up to see how the grades really panned out. To see who knows what they are talking about and who doesn't.
