S Chris Reis Flying Under the Radar?

SI's write up for the 2006 draft

Chris Reis - S - 6-0, 215, 4.69, Georgia Tech

BIO: Two-year starter who totaled 76/2/2 as a senior after 70/1/6 the prior year. All-Conference and All-Academic performer in the past.

POSITIVES: Competitive defensive back who does the little things well. Aggressive in all aspects of the game and immediately diagnoses plays. Explosive in run defense, chases to get involved and sacrifices his body to make the tackle. Outstanding special-teamer, usually the first one down the field on coverage units.

NEGATIVES: Has marginal ball-skills and techniques in pass defense. Stiff pedaling in reverse, lacks speed to the flanks and does a lot of trailing in coverage.

ANALYSIS: A physical prospect best in a straight line, Reis is a backup safety who could have a long career in the NFL as a special-teams ace.

PROJECTION: Undrafted Free Agent

2005 All-ACC Academic Football Team

Tech has solid linebackers. This is an area where Gailey has recruited well. However, one of his best playmakers last year was Chris Reis. As a Safety 2 years ago his lack of DB speed got him beat regularly. As a LB last year, his speed was above average for the position, and he was a consistent playmaker. So, Gailey moves him back to Safety.

Cologne Centurions strong safety Chris Reis, who signed with the Saints early in the off-season as a free agent, was named the NFL Europa League's Defensive Player of the Week for Week 3.

Reis helped Cologne to a 14-6 victory over the Rhein Fire by intercepting a pass and returning it 21 yards for a touchdown with 11:42 to play in the game. Reis also added one tackle and knocked down a pass.

Christian kid. got base one covered
S to LB to S, flexable in college. base 2 covered

Can he put it all together and be in a saints uni on game day? He just might.
Oh yeah another Cinnci cast off.

What are his Europa stats?

He just won Defensive Player of the Week

That isn't a stat, and I did read that.

Chris Reis just played in a game today and he had several tackles, at least 1 pass defended and 1 fumble recovery. He looked really good. Tough tackler and pretty good in the secondary. (gotta take the level of competition into account though.)

If he can continue to play like this and do well in TC, he very well could make it on the roster this year.

I really like the way the kid plays.

We really need another SS behind Harper that won't get us killed again. Bellamy did ok in a pinch, but they cut him earlier in the year for a reason. Hopefully our front 7 is better this year and the SS won't have to play down in the box so much.

Good point about the front 7; it especially applies to the line. We need more production (ie tackles) from Smith, Thomas & Young, and less reliance on the DB's.

My god, Stoutmire, Thomas and Craft were 6th, 7th, & 9th in tackles, and Bullocks was Third.

The kid is playing good on the other side of the pond thats all I know. Cinci was deep at S before FA and now are scrambling to fill the void. I am going to be watching him at camp thats for sure.

Actually I think Reis had 10+ solo tackles and at least 2 assists to go along with the fumble recovery and passes defensed. Several of those tackles were hard as the ball carrier got up very slow. Kid is getting better each week.
