The Saints quietly took care of pressing needs on the defense and without a doubt made sure that the leagues #1 offense will still be in the running for that title next year. Please do not and I repeat DO NOT underestimate the decision makers, they know what their doing.

Agreed. Pople wondered why we went Offense a lot in the draft. The reason is simple. We filled a lot of needs with solid production players in FA. That being, we were able to go BPA in the draft no matter the position

We went about our buisness like we did last year. Calm and quitely. No big slashes for the media to talk about. We did the same thing in the draft. Now the UDFA splash??? Thomas?? lol. Quality players, it seems. The jurry is still out on all these moves, just like last year. We as fans maybe getting a heck of a football lesson. I hate to say this but in alot of ways this reminds of what the patriots have done the past. Only difference is it seems the saints are willing to pay key players a fair salary to keep them, ie Grant.
Can not what till the camps start to see how they pan out.

Yeah. What we did was go and get players who will help our team, in character, production, and leadership. We didnt get all fancy and sign big name players we just got the job done.

I am way more excited about the free agency moves we made than the draft day decisions. In free agency we got 4 guys who can come in and start: Brian Simmons, Kevin K, Olindo Mare, and Jason David. We also got some guys who could potentially start: Eric Johnson, Jason Hanson, and David Patten. Then we took care of business and re-signed the people we needed to re-sign: Charles Grant (great decision), Hollis Thomas, Copper, Billy Miller, and Scott Shanle. That's a helluva free agency class. The thing I didn't like about the draft is that we are so close to being a Super Bowl team RIGHT NOW, and we drafted a bunch of developmental players, only perhaps one of whom will see the field with any consistency this year. I think there were immediate impact guys we could have taken to help us get over the hump this season, because we've all seen how we can mess up contracts and be stuck with players we don't want (Darren Howard, Tebucky Jones, AB, etc) and ruin value.

That being said, however, I am very pleased with the offseason as a whole. I think that we have improved as a team.

Not too sure about that. Joe Horn's departure was big news esp. with his move to the dirty birds. As far as addressing needs... Again I gotta say that (crossing fingers) if we stay healthy at QB this year were gonna contend but if Drew goes down... Martin saves the season??? No way in hell if the question is quality backup Martin is the answer. Who is the quarterback of the future for this team? Why can't we draft an answer to this issue? Maybe its the power of free agency (Thank you Chargers)? Don't know...

I think Tyler Palko may surprise. We're the perfect fit for him, he's got all the intangibles even if he's probably going to be nothing more than a career backup (but a solid one), and you can be sure Payton can coach him up. Hey, maybe in a few years we can trade him to Houston and fleece them for a couple of picks too!

We certainly don't need to burn a high round pick on QB when Brees will be here for as long as he wants to be; he's only 28 and just entering his prime, and he and coach are a perfect match for each other. I saw a mock draft for '08 that had us picking Colt Brennan in the first round. Who do they think we are, the Eagles?

I don't know, I am not impressed with him at all. If he has a shot then its maybe with us but I don't think he'll make the cut at all.

I was pretty high on Palko coming in as one of those late-round/UDFA types for Payton to mold the way he did with Tony Romo. He seems to fit the mold as a pocket QB with West Coast skills but with more of that 'gunslinger' mentality than Romo has.
