Underrated Dt Young........

DT Bryan Young should have made the Pro Bowl. This is a comparison of the NFC Pro Bowl DT's and Young:

# 93 Kevin Williams
Position: DT
Height: 6-5
Weight: 304----------G-Ttl-Tkl-Ast-Sk-Pd
2006 Minnesota Vikings 16 36 28.0 8 5 6

# 77 Kris Jenkins
Position: DT
Height: 6-4
Weight: 335
2006 Carolina Panthers 16 41 32.0 9 3 1

# 91 Tommie Harris
Position: DT
Height: 6-3
Weight: 300
2006 Chicago Bears 12 28 22.0 6 5 1

# 66 Brian Young
Position: DT
Height: 6-2
Weight: 298
2006 New Orleans Saints 16 46 36.0 10 5.5 1

The only reason I post this thread is, everybody talk about how bad our DT position is, and rightfully so. But, we went to the NFC Championship Game, we had three players, one from the defense who made the the Pro Bowl. When you look at the numbers of those Pro Bowl DT
s, and compare them to Young's, you can't tell me he's not a very underrated DT. But, again that's just my opinion.

Damn right. You hear way more about Hollis that Young, but BY is a heck of a DT. With the new signings, that's (hopefully) some fresh legs in the rotation that don't belong to Willie Whitehead. That should make BY and Hollis all the more effective late in games.

You know, you'd be hard pressed to find a better starting four in all of the NFL than Smith, Thomas, Young and Grant.

I agree on Young being underrated. As much as I want two big bodies starting next to each other, Young's motor never stops and doesn't get enough credit for the good things he does.

Young is a good DT. The only thing is age. Rotation is key to get more years out of the guy, just like Hollis. I can not blame the run defense on one position last year. I think it was a melt down across the board. One game you could see the DT getting pushed around. The next it was the LB and the next it was poor safety play. So I have to look at the unit needing more playing time as a key. Though the Chicago game they all looked tired by the end of the 3rd. Well we got some key additions. So lets hope the unit as a whole gells this year can address the rest of the issues.

great post!

the pro bowl very rarely have the best players at each position...it is usually the most popular players that make it.

I think our D-linemen are in for a big year with all the additions to the LB and DB positions. Young and Thomas in particular should have big years up the middle with big Brian Simmons backing them up.

good post

I agree. I personally thought our D-line played well last year. Especially Young. We did struggle when Hollis had to sit out, but that was kinda expected. In my opinion; the reason why our d-line (the best unit on our defense) didn't get the credit that they deserve is because our linebacking core didn't play well. They played hard, but not well. Fujita is a good player, but for our d-line to be able to excel our linebackers or gon have to play alot better than they did last season.

But anyway....Good Post!!
