Underrated Ricky "city Champ" Jackson................

When I look at all those reports on great LB's of the past, they never ever mention in the slightest the name Ricky Jackson. Man, I watch a lot of programs that pay homage to great players from the past and it disturbs me tremendously that they run programs about LT, Derrick Thomas, Kevin Greene, and guys like that. Now, don't get me wrong, those guys deserves all the pub they get and rightfully so, but you can't tell me our RJ don't belong in the same breath of those guys, as a matter of fact, he was a better all around LB than a lot of the those guys they pay homage to. If not for playing in the same era as LT, the City Champ would have made a lot more Pro Bowls and would definitely be in the HOF, I mean 115 sacks as a Saint(I don't remember how many he had in SF), about 28 fumbles with a season high of 7, all Saints records. I think if Ricky "CITY CHAMP" Jackson is not voted into the NFL HOF, the whole State of Louisiana should stage a write in campaign too DEMAND that the NFL show our great warrior some got dam well deserve respect and put him in his place in NFL immortality that is the Pro Football Hall Of Fame. But then again, that's just my opinion.

I have already written to the hall many times on rickies behalf. all I get back is a form letter of thanks. The only thing that may work is a grass roots effort. Maybe a fan letter. Camp out at the dome at the entrances and get sigs. Invade local pubs and restraunts and get sigs. Then it would be up to the local sports writers to push it through. Media is the only chance IMO. Sad, but true, is that if Rickey had played anywhere else, except in the city of New Orleans, he would be mentioned in that same breath as the others.

You are a 100% right hagan. And i would bet anything Sam Mills will be elected before Ricky. Don't get me wrong Sam was great but Ricky was the best.

All-time favorite Saints player.I shared an elevator ride with him in St.Louis in 1999.He was so genuinely concerned that today's players didn't have that "it"factor.He said all they seemed to care about was the money and the lifestyle.He deserves th H.O.F.

Sounds alot like Bruce Clark. I meet him a couple of times. That must have been the mental mind set of the D at the time. Maybe thats what made them great.

Favorite Bruce Clark qoute:

His responce to the black and white thing. He was a funny guy with a heart of gold.

I think Tom Benson should throw a little of his weight around with those NFL Committees just to give Ricky an honest shot at being inducted into the Hall. There's so many players in the HOF with nowhere near the credentials of a Ricky Jackson, so why not Ricky Jackson.
