Payton Reveals DEFENSIVE Goals...

According to the newest article on the N.O. Saints website, Payton is happy with the direction his defense is heading. He says one of the stresses this season will be on creating more turnovers, and turning the ball over less.

Suddenly, I go from being confident in the defense - to actually being optimistic. Perhaps this year the defense will be less of a liability, and more of something we can hang our hats on; knowing they'll keep us in the game.

baby steps. Sean (spell check...correct) has done a great job with selecting players. End of story. Give him 2 more years and we should be set. The only thing left on the house that Sean (spell check...correct) built is some trim work. Can not wait to see what happens in the 2008 FA.

The only thing I am worried about is that Shawn :-) rebuilds this team to greatness and he does a Nick Saban on us.

To me, the most encouraging thing about reading this is now knowing that Peyton (just kidding), Payton is aware that there is a defensive side of the ball, and his awareness that we didn't create turnovers last year. Didn't really have the hosses.

Looking at how last year's draft is turning out, I certainly won't be the one to doubt Payton's draft decisions but, I couldn't help buy wonder if we were going to go the way of Indy (of course they didn't do to bad last year) and ignore the defense and treat it like an unwanted stepchild. After all, our offense was very good last year yet we continue to draft offense and add TEs and such. That's cool with me, we certainly needed a TE, WR, and OL depth but, I was beginning to wonder for a while how much emphasis he puts on defense. This article makes me feel a little better about thatl.

The only problem with your quote is that Saban never rebuilt the Dolphins anywhere near greatness. ;0)

I'm sure like the Niners of yesteryear....this organization will make sure the only way Payton leaves is through retirement.

I still can figure out why anyone would say Payton ignored the D this offseason???

He took care of some issues on D with FA and some with the draft get off that trip already.

the only position of weakness not addressed on defense was dt.obvisously, payton felt like there was not a positive move available so far. don't be surprised to see something happen there prior to the start of the season.
