Superbowl in the Dome

http://www.aolsportsblog.com/2007/05...o-new-orleans/

I read a Bill Simmons collumn once that called for the SB to make a permanent home in NOLA. The argument was that NOLA is set up for thousands of visitors and is way more tourist friendly than Jacksonville, Houston, Indy, etc...

That was before Katrina. The question is, how long until NOLA is ready to host another bowl? What kind of makeover does the Dome need? I couldn't make it to a game last season, is it ready now?

Yep, it's ready. I was at the Saints/Eagles playoff game and it was fine.

I was also not able to see the inside of the dome this year. Has it been upgraded. The last time I was there, I felt like I was back in the mid-80's. Does anyone have any pics of the new and improved dome?

Dome ready, city not.

IMO The immediate surroundings of downtown could, however, handle the 200k++ visitors by 2009.

Now, we all know that Tagliabue appeared committed to bringing NO back as a viable NFL city.......Is Goodell?? Now that Benson seems to have taken a back-seat, I believe that team will continue to experience success and create more revenue for the city while generating a better attitude towards NO....

Bottom line. No business wants to host their biggest event in a dangerous city!

It is all up tom benson, from what I read. He has to put the city up to host the game. He is not going to do it till the 2010 dead line is resolved.
As far as the crime bit. It has always been an issue and always will be. The city has never really wanted to clean it up. For what ever reason. The superbowl would go on the standard lock down mode that mardi gras and the sugar bowl goes under. As long as the vistors stay in the right areas they will be safe. It is the same advise I give friends that visit the city. I even mark the maps with zones to stay in and the ones to avoid. Funny thing is most do not relize the danger. The city does an AAA+++ job of hiding these facts.
