Bush/Young: the Rivalry that will define the NFL for some time to come

I have thought long and hard about this and the reality is far more complicated then maybe I making an argument for here but in revisiting the 2006 Draft, was Vince Young the best pick drafted by the team that needed him the most. I knoe some of you guys are going to say Reggie Bush is that guy and you would have a point. but in the context on immediate impact Vince Young made the biggest impact in his rookie season, the titans were looking bad before him and now their thinking they have their main impact player in Vince Young? Befroe he arrived in Tennessee, the Titans were going nowhere and their coach Jeff fisher was on the hot seat, now he thinks he can win again all becuase of one guy.

Meanwhile in New Orleans Bush has an auspicous start to his NFL career, he wins games but looks mediocre as a result in some of them. I think Bush went to the right team, it just took him more time to learn the NFL game and he is learning I think.

I think this upcoming season will be huge indicator of where both mens careers go, Young will probably make a bad team look good and Bush will have a HOF career I think. He is playing on a offensive juggernaut and is only a piece of the puzzle here, but the ongoing Young/Bush debate will go on for many more years to come I think.

It started in the Rose Bowl and now its contiuning in the NFL. One game has a way of starting feuds and rivalries in both the NBA and the NFL, Bird and Magic's rivalry started in 1979 in college and it lasted for the next 15 years in the NBA and along the way they changed their game. Now Young and Bush have started unwittingly maybe a rivelry that lasts a bit longer and maybe changes the NFL fortunes in the next 10 years.

I don't know if you can say that Bush didn't have an impact on how well the Saints played. He started off slow at the start of the season in the stats department, but he was mostly used as a guinea pig, and it worked WELL. I think Young is a great athlete and he showed that, but to say Young was the better player that went to the team who needed him is daft. I don't see the Saints in the playoffs without Bush. Just a Humble Opinion.

You have a good point,Mighty

I think the Saints were a good team before they got Bush, and in that I mean we had a good qB in Drew Brees and Deuce Mcallister and Joe Horn was still here. Do I think would we have made the playoffs without Bush last year? its a 50/50 question IMHO, Bush made our offense a lot more potent and a lot more dangerous.

but when a draft is analyzed, you look at one guy's impact on a team, both bad and good and the Titans were a bad team with a lot more holes to fix and they almost made the playoffs because of one player. Thats hard to do Mighty and Young made an immediate impact on his team, he was always in the news becuase he could make things happen and he could win close games and do it in dramatic fashion. Its debateable I think looking back on it but we had a good team some may say before Bush got here while the Titans got a overachiveing pick in Young.
It depends on your point of view

We did have a good team we just needed some discipline, and we got it with Payton. Bush is a great addition, he makes us better.

But, Young made the biggest impact, look at their record. We all Love Bush but, you have to give respect when it is due!

It may turn out that way. Young had no choice but to run for his life with OL and WR he had. He is going to be special one day if he does not killed first. As for the players that will define this draft class I am holding off on picking them just yet. Some great players were picked and played very well else where. The media just loves RB and WR but there are some great players all over the place. So i think more than two players will go down as defining elements of the 2006 draft. I am leaning towards giving the 2006 draft class as one of the best ever in the NFL.

You have to give it to Young at this point.

At QB, Young has a bigger impact (for better or worse) on his team by default. So we're not exactly comparing apples to apples. However, starting with the Rose Bowl when VY delivered the single greatest athletic performance in history, he has showed that he has the desire to do whatever it takes to win a game and the God-given ability to make it happen. It seemed like every Sunday for the last 6 weeks of the season, VY was taking over football games. He is truly an amazing competitior.

Reggie has all the ability in the world. From a pure athletic standpoint, he's probably got a leg up on VY, but I think it comes down to the 6 inches of real estate between your ears. Reggie - thus far - has not shown that ability to take a team on his back and carry them to victory.
