--Saints safety Chris Reis, who will try to earn a roster spot as a backup and special teams performer when training camp opens in late July, was named to the All-NFL Europa League team.

Reis, who signed with the Saints in January and was allocated to the Cologne Centurions, ranked second on the Centurions' defense with 54 tackles in 10 starts.

He had one interception for 21 yards and one touchdown, seven pass defenses and four special-teams tackles. The Georgia Tech product was chosen as the NFLE Defensive Player of the Week in Week 3.

I like this kid a lot too. I'm hoping he performs well enough to push Bellamy out. He can take over Gleasons spot also, especially since it seems Gleason will miss the beginning of the season. Looking at the roster we have

5. Chris Reis
6. Curry Burns???
7. Gleason (out indefinitely)

If he performs well, I can see him take the #4 spot. Especially with his special teams reputation.

Chris Reis is sort of a linebacker/safety tweener, who has moved back and forth between safety and linebacker for the Jackets during his outstanding career. In 2004, as a linebacker, he displayed an uncanny ability to harass opposing quarterbacks on the blitz, registering 7 sacks for the season. At safety this season, he’s played stoutly against the run, collecting 78 tackles. He's even improved in coverage this season, evidenced by his pair of interceptions and overall solid play. He is also seen as an outstanding special teams player. If he runs well in workouts, he's definitely a draftable player with value. We like this player a lot.

anybody think he could be like a steve gleason?

He is a leader and intelligent. He was captain at Georgia Tech,a 3 time academic all ACC team and the on the field defensive coach. Reis had outstanding pro day numbers. He will be an asset to the Saints if he is given a chance to show what he can do. Free agents are not given the same chance as draft choices. He is definitely better than some late draft choices and some late signees that were released from other teams. He would be an asset on special teams and as a backup safety.
