FB depth?
 

Mike Karney is one of the 2 best blocking fullbacks in the league but I belive the Saints need someone behind him to provide some depth Jamaal Branch has good size 6-1 230 he wouldnt the type of blocker Karney is but he could be a nice change of pace at the fullback position with his abilty to run with the ball and with Duece, Reggie and Pittman at RB, FB could be the best place for him. What do you guys think?

Last year we covered the loss of Karney really well. A decent blocking back can be found in a pinch so I wouldn't worry too much. TE's can fill that spot in case of a crisis.

Branch is a good back up for Deuce. Reggie and Pittman aren't bruisers. I was calling it a week before the game and still believe now that not activating Branch in Stecker's place in the NFC Championship had a lot to do with our losing. The "Who cares that it's freezing and snowing...we'll go ahead and pass all over anyway instead of trying to run the ball" philosophy that Payton and Brees demonstrated was also a big factor. Everyone tries to harp on the turnovers. We would have had a better chance to come out and build up speed by ramming the ball at the Bears which statistacally is less of a risk than throwing. It would have kept the Bears honest. The safety that ended the game for us came after we got close enough for a go-ahead FG and we Threw The Ball 3 Times :handguns: We could have run on 2 of 'em and got extra yardage for the kick. Then, there would have been no safety where we were still trying to throw down by 2 points. :confused:

I don't see a need of carrying 2 fullbacks on the roster. If Karney were to get hurt, we'll see a lot more of Bush and Deuce on the field at the same time... which isn't exactly a bad thing. Plus, we could always shift one of the blocking TE's into the backfield.

A guy i watched last night for LA Avengers. college DE, but plays FB/LB for LA. very agile, fast enough and good hands. 6-0ish and about 260. name is Josh Jeffries.

I do not think the Saints can afford a roster spot for reserve FB. To address the possibility of Karney going down, maybe a FB can train on the practice squad. I agree with the other posts, if Karney goes down then we would probably see a lot of Bush and Deuce in the same backfield. Another option would be to use a guy like Mark Campbell as a H-Back.

Hell when was the last time we carried 2 FB's??? No we can sub a TE at the FB position if we need to.

yes one fb only please, cross that bridge if we come to it.

All you guys are right, but I would hate to see Branch go.
