Tampa Bay Buccaneers cornerback Brian Kelly, frustrated by denied requests to restructure his contract, is debating Thursday whether or not to report to the start of training camp Friday.

Kelly, who led the NFL with eight interceptions last season, has been asking the team since February to enhance the six-year, $15.23 million contract he signed in 2002. According to his agent, Gary Uberstine, the Bucs recently informed Kelly that they will not change the contract, which pays him $1 million this season.

We\'ve got our hands full..... This is totally dissappointing and there is nothing I can do about it. Kelly stepped up last year, after several years of being \"suspect\" now he wants to renegotiate.... Sickening.

Happens all the time. Once a player signs a multi year contract then has a exceptionally good year they suddenly want to \"renegotiate\" even when they have already signed for 3 or 4 more years. Where is the honor????
On the other hand if a player goes above and beyond expectations and carries extra burdens for a team maybe the team should give him something extra in return even though he has 3 or 4 more years to go on his current contract. I have seen this from both sides and it usually ends the same way....the team and player usually loose respect and feelings towards one another and eventually go separate ways. Wesley Walls, Morten Anderson, just to name a few.

Agreed, it\'s typical. Happens far too often. If player overachieves, player wants a pay increase, player isn\'t appreciated. If he underachieves, he doesn\'t want a salary reduction, and usually because he\'s just not playing in the right system, the system sucks.

I wish to hell -all- of these guys made the national average income. Then, the only people that\'d be playing are people that genuinely love the game. I\'d love it if it went back to that, back to the old old days.... i.e. if the Saints were a bunch of people from N.O. playing the Bucs, a bunch of people from Tampa.

The caliber of players would probably go down, but I\'d still be a fan, I\'d still be at the games. The tickets would just be a helluva lot cheaper.

The NFL is NO different than any other corporate environment. Don\'t kid yourself. If you\'re a middle manager and you\'re carrying your particular organization, you go to your executives and ask for more money, or find another company that will pay you more. If you don\'t do your job you either get fired or sit in limbo and never get a raise or increased role in the organization. It\'s no different than what goes on every day in the \"real\" world. The only difference is that the salaries in this particular field are much much higher than average.

Stop the presses again, because I agree with WhoDat again.

Also, the life of an NFL player is short. Tomorrow is not guaranteed. You have to take the money while you can get it. There\'s not one person in here that if they had the leverage to try to get more money they wouldn\'t seize the opportunity.

Owners screw players over all the time also. Look at Randall Godfrey. It\'s the owners job to save as much money as possible and the players job to get as much as possible.

I -do- live in the real world, where an incompetent person on my staff was just given a promotion and raise for crying louder than others. For scaring the department head about threats of going to HR, crying harrassment. While others who were more talented, better qualified, with a better work ethic were laid off.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers cornerback Brian Kelly, who contemplated not reporting to camp after being rejected in a bid to restructure his contract, decided Friday afternoon to report on time.

Kelly wrestled with the idea of reporting late until Friday morning when he felt the best decision was to drive from Tampa to Orlando.

\"I\'m excited and ready to go,\" Kelly said. \"I took part in everyone of the offseason workouts and I\'m not looking to make a distraction.\"
