Thursday Practice Report

The Saints returned to the practice field in preparation for Friday night’s preseason home opener against Buffalo after spending the morning in meetings and in the weight room. The team practiced for about an hour and a half in shells and shorts, with the focus of the workout being on timing, rhythm and repetition. After several very physical practices last week and earlier this week, Head Coach Sean Payton looks to be concentrating on the mental aspect of the game.

During warm-ups, instead of the usual starting offense vs. starting defense drills, both first-string units ran plays against a scout team as the Saints implemented a basic game plan for Friday night’s preseason game against Buffalo.

Jason David lined up at cornerback with the starting defense along with Mike McKenzie. Dhani Jones replaced the injured Scott Fujita at outside linebacker.

During the first round of the team vs. team period, the focus was on the ground game. On the second play from scrimmage, running back Reggie Bush darted through a hole and raced to the outside. When the second string took the field, wide receiver Lance Moore took a reverse and sped around the left side.

6-foot-5 wideout Aaron Hosack made a nice one-handed sideline grab over cornerback Fred Thomas during second-team drills.

Aaron Hosack is one I am interested in. Not much has been said about him. He is a possession type of reciever and at 6-5 he built for it. I know another gopher I am backing. PS is a good place for the kid to end up.
