Cool Taking Care of Business

Running back Pierre Thomas is doing everything he can to make the Saints roster as a rookie free agent. Perhaps a little undersized, but definitely speedy, the former University of Illinois standout has been working hard both on offense and in on special teams. Thomas gained 19 yards on four rushes in the preseason opener, caught a pair of passes for 35 yards and returned two kickoffs for an average of 23 yards. The Chicago native checked in with NewOrleansSaints.com today following practice for a status report on his trip through training camp.

Practice went well today. We went out there this afternoon and polished up, fixed our mistakes from last week and just worked to get better – one step at a time. We really got after it today, even though it was a lighter day. Coach really got on us, trying to get us to move around and keep up our tempo and have things going fast so we get used to the game speed – so even though it was a one-a-day and in shorts, we really didn’t take it lightly. Everyone is feeling real good. We all feel well-rested and came out here with positive attitudes.

I see myself being an asset to this team in many different aspects – I see myself helping the team out in any way that I can. I’ll be helping out on special teams, in addition to my offensive abilities to help the team; I feel good about being on this team and I’m willing to help the team with whatever it takes. To tell you the truth, I’m just glad to be down here in this position.

Staying hydrated is always something that is on my mind. This southern heat is something that I am not used to, so I’m staying on the water. The heat is trying to get to me, but I’m not letting it – I’m just staying focused on my plays and what I have to do.

The team is coming together; we’re getting our bodies back and getting fresh to regain our tempo for a win against Buffalo on Friday.

He has been a nice surprise. Being a Gopher fan I watch alot of big ten ball and was expecting him to do good, but not this good. Stecker is in trouble. With the cap and FA next year, his timing could not have been better. For himself as well as the team

Yeah, I'm liking Pierre. Good attitude, too.

The heat index in Jackson is supposed to be around 115 degrees today.
