It's his "redshirt" year. For all that, we should have went with the local boy... at least he's seeing playing time there in San Diego.

When asked about Meachem's progress earlier this week, Saints coach Sean Payton said that he's not close to being ready.

"He's made progress, but if it were to my liking we'd be having him in the game," Payton said. "He still has a ways to go and he's working hard.

Like some said its his RED SHIRT YEAR

Bust? He sucks? I hope that when this guy plays he improves this offense. I at least want to see him play before I judge his ability.
As of now, I am the biggest member of the Meachem fan club.

Possessing 4.3 speed, Meachem combines soft and dependable hands and is a polished route runner. In addition, Meachem was a model athlete and impressed his coaches with his work ethic and dedication to his team, never placing his individual accomplishments above the goals of the team. In addition, he understands how to use his long arms and his body to shield defenders from the ball, a knack some taller receivers struggle to grasp. Mecheam has also earned the reputation as an above average receiver, using his huge hands to easily snare passes and make plays in traffic.

"Every coach who had contact with him said he was an A+ character guy," said Loomis. "He impressed us at the combine with his interview and we brought him here to interview with us and he was very impressive."

Meachem was widely regarded as one of the finest wide receiver prospects to come out of Tennessee in the last twenty-five years. That, in itself, is impressive, considering that the school has produced such notable receiving stalwarts such as former Cincinnati Bengal Carl Pickens, former Dallas Cowboy Alvin Harper, former Bengal Tim McGee, and former Charger Anthony Miller, to name but a few.
