Stepping Out Of The Shadows

Sons of former Saints players are determined to leave their own marks on the football field

Wednesday, October 17, 2007
By Billy Turner

Imagine living in a large shadow all your life, and you might understand them better.

Imagine having to be your own person, despite wanting to succeed in the very area in which your father was so successful.

Six high school football players, counting an eighth-grader, in the area this season are sons of professional football players, and they know that glare.

They are Saints kids, and because of that they've all learned to perform under the sometime-harsh spotlight that accompanies being who they are.

Dalton Hilliard Jr. is a junior at Brother Martin. He plays running back, as did his father.

Patrick Swilling Jr. is a sophomore at Brother Martin. He plays rush end. His father played rush linebacker.

Matt Dombrowski, a sophomore at Mandeville, is an offensive lineman as was his father, Jim.

Scott Korte, a sophomore at Fontainebleau, plays on the defensive line. His father, Steve, played on the offensive line.

Michael Mauti, a senior at Mandeville, plays linebacker. His father, Rich, was a wide receiver/return specialist.

Vince Buck Jr., an eighth grader, plays defensive back at Brother Martin, as did his father.

We're drafting Swilling when he enters the draft.

I tell you, I wouldn't trade Brees for Eli straight up, that would be insane...

I wonder where this thread is heading..
