Enough about Bush's toughness...

I know I am no one to tell anyone what they can or can't say but....I really hope that after today I never see another stoooooopid thread questioning RB's toughness and contact issues. That man laid it on the line for us today and pulled through. Nothing but TOUGH yards and a good performance.

Re: Enough about Bush's toughness...

Thanks for posting this because I agree with you, Bush showed heart and power today.
I bet almost every team in the NFL would love to have him on their team about now, Texans included..
I'm happy he's with the Saints, he'll continue to improve, that's scary to the rest of the NFC.

Re: Enough about Bush's toughness...

NEW ORLEANS -- Call him Reggie "The Bruiser" Bush.
People know the flashy Heisman Trophy winner out of Southern California by all those highlights of him cutting, spinning and sprinting away from people in the open field.
Yet it was his underrated power and grit that turned a day of frustration into one of celebration for the New Orleans Saints.
His legs churning and body squirming as three Atlanta tacklers met him around the 2-yard line, Bush spun free and dived across the goal line on a crucial third-and-goal screen pass. His touchdown lifted New Orleans to a 22-16 victory over the Falcons on Sunday.
"How about Reggie Bush today? That was unbelievable," Saints linebacker Scott Fujita said. "You hear about all the (flack) he's taken from people for not being able to run downhill ... but that guy competes more than many people I've ever seen in the league. There was no chance he wasn't going to score on that."

Good write up.

right on...i'm tired of ppl saying he was useles as a pick. where the hell would we be without HIM as an RB right now. no deuce or reggie...please, we'd really be screwed. i'm glad to see that we got him. yes there were other concerns, but some of those were addressed with far less results than we've had with reggie.

Amen Jeebs!

I'll add something else about Reggie. This is a good kid. He's 22 years old, makes alot of money, he's under the media microscope, there's alot of hype around him, but yet he always handles himself with maturity and class. He doesn't run his mouth, blame others, make excuses, when he does talk from behind the podium he always talks about "team" and when he mentions himself it's always about self improvement.
We've seen Reggie struggle, take big hits, make mistakes, but we've also watched him improve and perform superman acts, and honestly I believe the best from this kid is yet to come, because he's shown us that he doesn't give up, he gets better.

Run Reggie Run! I'm proud to call you a Saint.

I also believe the best is yet to come from him. I also see him as a class act. I can't wait for him to really develop into the "back" etc. etc. that we all know he will someday.

That's 2!! Let's geaux get sum meaux!!!!!

I'm still trying to figure out what more people want from the guy. He's proven that if you give him the ball 20 times he'll get you a buck and change. He's proved that he can run downhill. He's proven that he can score. He's proven that he can help this team win. He's proven that he tough. Have we forgotten that vicious hit he took in the Philly playoff game last year? Most players don't get up from a hit like that. He got up, got back in the game, and helped this team get to the NFC championship for the first time.

For some reason folks keep waiting for Superman to show up. He's already here, Someday is NOW! Truthfully it's only Coach Payton's insistence on a funky frenetic offense that keeps Bush from being a consistently spectacular back in this league. The sequence where Henderson scored on the TD would be my offense. Hand the ball off to Bush with the Karneyvore leading for two plays, then suck the LBs and safeties in with play action and throw right over the top. Bush had 23 yards in his first three carries. Personally I'd run him and Pierre Thomas right into the ground on defenses.

Somehow folks have gotten into thinking that if you don't score every time you touch the ball then you're not playing well. Bush runs downhill, gets the tough yards when necessary, and forces defenses to account for him on every play. That makes everyone else on the offense better.

That's what Superman is supposed to do.

BTW I just reread my own signature. Coach Payton is learning. At the end of the game, he kept it simple and ran the ball. Bush got the first down and helped to run out the clock. Keeping it simple. I hope that Coach keeps learning that you run a staple that works until the defense adjusts, then you pull the rabbit out of the hat. Just like the Henderson TD play. That play action doesn't work if you don't run the ball with authority.

Re: Enough about Bush's toughness...

Imagine what Bush could do if the Saints were actually "committed" to the run and the OL wasn't so weak. 86 attemps @ 3.4 Avg yd per rush is not special but behind this OL you gotta give the young man props b/c its all him.

Re: Enough about Bush's toughness...

I don't know what else Reggie has to do to get doubters off of his back. He's elusive and will get even better as he settles into his NFL skin. Payton can help him by leading Karney when he runs Reggie between the tackles. He can also give MikeK 3-5 carries just to break up the monotony and keep the defense honest. It is tough for Reggie to turn corners by design, or any back in this league, but his speed and quickness are awsome tools that CAN lead to his greatness if used effectively. We must PLAN to run, establish the run, and not give up on the run toooooooooo soon. Someone get this message to Payton - PLEASE!

I thought I was complimenting the guy. Sorry I rubbed you the wrong way by expecting great things from him. It's only cuz I think he's great.

If this post is in respone to my starting thread then....

You didn't rub me the wrong way and trust me....you were not alone. A LOT of people have been doing this. We all expect great things from him. I just figured that after last year...ESPECIALLY after what he did in the divisional game would anyone question it.

If this post was not for me....then ignore. ;0)

I think Reggie is doing a great job now and I'll stand behind my statement that I think the best of Reggie is yet to come. Reggie's acceleration and speed is phenomenal, he's exciting to watch in the open field where he's rarely 1 tackle away from taking it all the way. I can't wait for sunday in SanFran, I'm looking for Reggie to have an outstanding day.

Re: Enough about Bush's toughness...

Fujita said it himself hes getting tired of people questioning Bush toughness. He also said Bush works harder than anyone on the team. You have people like Deion Sanders, Terrell Davis saying this guy will never be great in the NFL because hes not tough. You know what Deion can do go keep kissing Devin Hesters butt. Thats all this guy talks about is Devin Hester.

Re: Enough about Bush's toughness...

I always wondered where, when, and who started this crap about his toughness. I thought last year he proved his toughness, I mean how many RBs could get up after the blow he took in that Philadelphia game and be a main contributor in the victory, Reggie just keep doing your thing, to HELL with the HATERS, we the true BLACK & GOLD NATION got your back.

Re: Enough about Bush's toughness...

I don't understand why people say that he is not tough. He is playing a tough sport in the NFL, and that is itself is tough. And that TD proved his toughness.

I was rubbed the wrong way because he's really good right now. I just don't think that Coach Payton's offensive philosophy will facilitate Bush getting to where people thinks he ought to be. That will require about 30-35 committed touches per game and near 20 committed rushes per game. That's what LT, LJ, and Tiki last year were getting to be productive. It requires a line committed to the run. It requires a change in thinking.

The guy stepped into the breech and has helped to get the job done.

Re: Enough about Bush's toughness...

Reggie toughness came into question by the commentators on TV.

I missed the game, wish I could have seen it, have not even seen any highlights from the game or heard any of the sports channels talking about the Saints. Which to me, in a small way is good. If the media doesn't hype us up, other teams may not put as much as they should into prep.

Good win, Proud for PT!

Let's geaux Saints!
