Secondly, being this is a pass happy offense I've read that he is not as good a reciever as Strecker or Bush for that matter.

The guy can run the ball. We need someone else other than Bush that can run the ball. Simply put in a package for him that features him running the ball and all the passes being quick stuff. With Bush dragging away a double team, PT will run wild.

Re: Pierre Thomas

Thomas runs forward and takes what the defense gives him. Reggie is still trying to do too much.

I hear ya but lets face it our OL has yet to preform up to the the level necessary to sustain a running game. This has been very apparent when you look at how we almost let Seattle back into the game b/c we couldn't run in the 2nd half and control the clock. And the coaching staff has to want to run the ball. Payton seems like he is only calling the run when the other team expects it which means there are 8 defenders in the box. Running Pierre Thomas is not going to effect either of these two realities. The OL needs a big upgrade to truly become a 1st tier NFL team rushing.

I agree about the O-Line being a problem. They've stepped up a little since the first few games, but they still aren't as good as they need to be.

A good example of Payton calling a run when it is expected is when they had 1st and goal from the 4. He bunched up the line and had a WR come in motion and stop at the line. The ball was given to Reggie for a loss after the falcons blew up the play. I might not have been able to tell anyone it was going to be a run, but as the ball was snapped that is what I expected.

Re: Pierre Thomas

It was mentioned earlier- our coach is pass happy. Passing has its place, but we need to be able to run the ball, effectively. That depends on both HOW and WHEN you run. Bush, Stecker, Thomas, and Karney can be used more effectively. Each brings their own unique contribution to the running game. Our offensive line also has its strengths and its weaknesses. It is Sean Payton's job to get the most out of what we have, and design and call the plays that work best for us - in the moment. Blocks don't have to be perfect, just effective. Our success each week will be a toss up until we can develop some consistency in the running game - Karney is the key.

Re: Pierre Thomas

You're right. He is pass-happy, or more accurately "big-play" happy. He tries to get the big play EVERY single time. Which is good if it's working and don't have a close game to win, but when things get tight, and time starts winding down - you NEED the running backs to be able to help pump life into your offense and keep the game moving.

You can't pass pass pass punt every possession, it's not good for the whole team.

That was the Eagles' problem, they were complaining that Andy Reid was passing too much, and scoring too quickly - therefore they couldn't keep a lead and they were losing games. They gave the playcalling over to Marty Morhinwig (whateva it is) and they became more balanced.

Re: Pierre Thomas

Here's some good Thomas quotes followed by an encouraging Payton quote:

"It feels great, I just really want to help this team win," Thomas said. "That's what I'm here for, to give the fans something to be excited about."
"Going into the play, they called the formation out and I was thinking to myself 'This could be the chance,'" Thomas said. "I have to do whatever I can to show this team, show these fans, show the coaches that I can perform. I hope I'm showing that I can be the guy that has his number called."
"He made the big run for us on the draw," Payton said. "He's a guy that I trust a lot with the football. He's smart. I thought it was a real good play he had with his touchdown. We'll continue to get him some more touches."

Looks like you were right JOESAM. You've said that this kid had great potential since training camp.
