2-Point Conversion

I'm sorry if someone already addressed this, but why did we go for 2 instead of the PAT? If we make the PAT, we are up by more than a field goal and less than a TD+PAT. If we make the 2-point conversion, we are still up by more than a field goal but less than a TD+PAT. Do we have that little faith in Mare?

It was totally crazy. I think the coaching staff simply couldn't add properly.

I didn't understand it either... but my best guess is that if they got 2 field goals we would still be tied.

But remember, I deal in reality and not the NFL.

I'm glad to see that I wasn't the only one who thought it was a little odd.

There is little difference between 4 and 5 points. On the otherhand, 6 points protects against two field goals which is still a possibility with as much time as there was. The 2 was a good call.

I was busy adding crazy scenarios too - including a saftey - but then I thought it had to come down to Mare.

That makes me nervous.

Re: 2-Point Conversion

Mental game....

up by 4, 5 or 6, anyway a TD still ties you/beats you.
However, up by 4 or 5, two field goals beat you.
It is easier to defend against a TD than it is to defend against a FG, and it is much easier to score
a FG than score a TD.
The Falcons have a really good kicker.
The Falcons had been moving the ball , but stunk in the red zone.
Mentally, down by 5, knowing they need to score 2 field goals, they could feel the game is within reach,
since they've been moving the ball well outsidet he red zone, whereas they know they stink in the red zone
and it makes it a much bigger task in their minds.

Re: 2-Point Conversion

I think it was a good call. If you don't convert it, you're still winning. But if you do convert it, you can withstand the following FG and onside kick (if the Falcons recover it).

Saints 2pt conversion

kickoff to Falcons

Falcons move ball -----------------> FG

Falcons recover onside kick, move ball a mere 10 yards -----------> FG

Chances are they win. But since we have those 2 points in our backpocket - they only tie us. Good call Payton.

Re: 2-Point Conversion

There was still five minutes to go when they made call. That was the best call to make. Very smart.
