2 things about our offense that drive me nuts!!

For those that have chosen to ignore Saintz08 keep doing so .

For those that wonder how the Saints could lose to the Lions here is how . This might take some tape rolling but well worth the time .

Note the defensive ends on the lions , they have begun to spread wider on Brooks and go contain assignment . This is eliminating Brooks emergency route change . The safeties are playing the inside routes more so and making it harder for Brooks to hit the inside hook routes . When Brooks does hit the routes the safties make the receivers pay .

Brooks once again is a fast ball pitcher , who is extremely limited in his passing ability . Brooks has no touch on the ball and cannot throw the touch pass . Brooks cannot hit the deep ball and that limits the offense . For those that say Brooks is only in his second season , Harrington has the ability in only his second game . Brooks is throwing the passes to hard on certain routes , watch balls sail through Sloans hands time and time again , high hard balls are very hard to catch . To further prove a point , go to the Stallworth touchdown and see what the trainer has to do to Stallworths forearm after he catches a rocket pass .

Brooks inability to hit these passes , limits the offense , puts the receivers with their backs too the defenders and makes his reads harder to get . The only difference between the 3 wins and the one loss is defense . The defense could not get the big turnovers and stops which shorten Brooks playing field .

One other note : special teams . There appears to be no wedge blocking on Kick off returns , it\'s either that or Beer man has developed a nasty tendecy to go to the sidelines immediately .

I see Beerman going to the sidelines way too much. I would like to see Stallworth get a shot a kick returns. Secondly I agree with the fact that brooks is a fast ball pitcher, but if you hit a reciever in his hands, chest, or the numbers it should be caught. A high hard pass is no excuse for David Sloan. The touchdown I think had to be thrown that hard in my opinion to get it in there to stallworth. Brooks does need to work on his touch passes and long balls, but he has thrown some nice long balls in the past and I cant see him just losing the touch on it. They havent given him an opportunity to throw down field enough. When you have a reciever that runs a 4.2 or 4.3 40 he should be running some flys. Throw the ball down field to him and let him make a play.

I like brooks but he does not have the skill at this time to throw the deep ball. On deep routes AB just launches the ball and prays something happens. Brooks is a stike thrower. Give him a reciever target going across the field and he\'ll get the ball there. He has a problem judging the reciever an a straight fly pattern.

AB is a Pocket passer! sure he can run the ball but he is most effective in the pocket. When a qb rolls out the field of play is much smaller. The saints have(before injuries) receivers that can spread the field open and that is where a pocket passer is needed. I think brooks has and continues to develop the natural feel for the pass rush.

Once again, I say....use AB as the mobile QB he is and throw the friggin ball deep a few times a game!!! Forget this making him a pocket QB BS. The stuff they\'re asking him to do Jake can do for Pete\'s sake!! I\'m not saying Jake\'s a better QB than AB or vice-versa. Both have their pluses and minuses. And I\'m not saying I want them to run AB all over the field every play, but if they plan on making AB the QB of this team then puh-lease use his strengths and those of the receivers too. Roll out AB every now and then. Drag Sloan across the field with him as an option on bootlegs. Or even a naked bootleg sometimes. There\'s a dozen more plays they can do similar to these. Pick one? Any one of\'em but use it once in a while. How many times has AB thrown the ball further than 30 yards in the air this year??? I\'m betting the Lions did it more in one 1/2 of a game than we\'ve done all year. There\'s 2 ways you can build a team. Have a system and get players that fit the system or make your system fit the players you\'ve got/get. Good staff\'s combine both. I think for the most part the Saints have players to fit the system they want to run they just need to tweek it a little to make it fit the players.

Im with you on the long ball. Detroit had a rookie corner starting Sunday. If you cant pick on a rookie corner who can you pick on? I havent seen one pass this year that could be considered a deep ball. Stallworth is faster than most corners in this league and has shown he is a playmaker. Give it a shot. It might not work but it will keep the defense honest. A couple of deep balls and no one is cheating up. It should open up the middle of the field and give Duece some more running room.

Here is the real kicker .

One on one man coverage with a rookie cornerback , and Brooks can not get the ball there . Stallworth can open up on a fly route and put serious turf between him and a defender and Brooks can not get it in the same zip code . Wonder why it is never used ??? Mc Carthy does not feel the need to advertise .....

Lions were using the safeties to cover down on the under routes in the game , they were begging the Saints to go deep . Brooks has not hit a long one yet on the fly route .The sad part is that with Brooks being almost unable to hit any route other than the curl , slant or out the receivers are getting killed out there . With the receivers only catching balls with their backs to the defenders , the defenders are hitting them hard . Did anyone see Horn holding his back ???

What is really beginning to bother is Brooks leadership . During the Lions game you see shots of Harrington discussing things with the offense . The Saints sideline has Brooks either getting chewed , standing alone or talking to Brian Cox . There seems to be no urgency on Brooks part to get the guys pulled together and get the game turned around . There are those that say Brooks needs time , he has had 2 years , Harrington 2 games .

The Pats and Raiders showed everyone how to beat Pittsburgh, now lets see if the saints coaching staff was watching. I think Duece should have a huge part in the passing game this week, if Kendrell Bell is out I think Duece becomes very dangerous through the air. Open up the defense with the pass and Oakland showed the run will work. They only ran 12 times, but put up a huge average. Dont let up on them. I think Brooks does his best work from the no huddle and Pittsburgh has had problems against theat this season. Lets hope the Saints use the game plan from the Pats and Raiders and not Cleveland. P.S. Please let one fly deep this weekend. Complete or not just let one go.

Ditto on the deep ball. On a different note I hope Stallworth doesn\'t turn into a Santana Moss with his hammy probs....

The Pittsburgh game stinks , it smells of Lion defeat potential .

First of all the Saints most likely have no film on Maddox , similar to Harrington . Although Harrington is the better of the 2 qb\'s in my mind , still no tendencies to study. Venturi will most likely hold the defense in cover 2 and make Maddox prove he can hit the open men , at least for the first half .

The big back is still a problem against the defense , the bus may shake a few cobb webs off in this game . His success is going to be related to Maddox though , if Maddox is on the bus will roll . The Bus may not get the start but he should get in there .

Thomas is going to be a target going into this one , that Q-Tip on his hand tells opposing Qbs he is less likely to make the pick .

Am sure Cowher would love to take Haslett behind the wood shed in his own house , and will most likely inspire his team to do so .

Duece has proven himself worthy in the league , he should start getting his own dance partner soon , a linebacker devoted to him. If Brooks cannot get the ball deep and pull the safeties out the inside routes are going to become a real problem for the receivers . Detroit was jamming things up pretty good , the safeties are playing shallow because they do not respect Brooks\'s deep ball .The Saints should never see safeties up with a receiver that has 4.2 speed , unless Brooks simply cannot accurately get the ball there .If that is the case , the blitzes are soon to come and often . The Steelers game will tell what the N.F.L. knows about Brooks .
