Could Carney kick Saints where it hurts, again?

You might recall the last game of the 2003 season when the Saints scored on the final play of the game with a series of laterals now referred to as the "River City Relay". You might also recall this game was pivotal because a "win" could have put them in a playoff spot. You might also remember the opponent was the Jacksonville Jaguars. And so it was, Saints were down by 7 points, scored on the final play, then awaited the extra point to send the game into overtime and keep the Saints playoff hopes alive. Then the unexpected happened, John Carney missed the extra point, only the 4th missed extra point in his career, 2 of which were blocked, and the Saints ended their season with a 20-19 loss to the Jaguars.

Now here we are in 2007, Saints are hosting the Jags in the Dome in another somewhat pivotal game in what appears to be a very close matchup where it's very likely this contest could be decided by a field goal. The irony of course is that John Carney, cut this year by the Saints, is now the field goal kicker for the Jaguars.

Is this the end of the story, or will Carney curse the Saints' winning streak and playoff contentions again?

I wish people would stop saying this.

Carney did NOT..

i repeat...

CARNEY DID NOT.....cost us a playoff spot that year.

The Saints were TECHNICALLY alive for a playoff spot heading into the game, but they didn't control their own destiny. The Seahawks finished 10-6, so a Saints victory over the Jags would have been meaningless.

I said, "this game was pivotal because a Win could have put them in a playoff spot".

Ok, the operative word in that sentence is could. C-o-u-l-d , if I had said "would" in place of "could" in that sentence then it would change the statement from a probability to a definitive.
If you need any more assistance with the english language, please let me know.

Regardless, I never forgave Carney for that screw-up. Missing an extra point (not having it blocked, not having it dropped, just downright missing it) is unforgiveable in the pros.

I was listening to that game on the radio on my way to work. I never heard Hokie scream like that EVER!

I still have a lot of love for Carney, but his leg won't even factor in the outcome of the game. A SAINTS VICTORY!!!!!!!!
