Saints sign McKinley Boykin to active roster

Ahead of the Sunday matchup against the St. Louis Rams, the New Orleans Saints made a pair of roster moves, signing defensive tackle McKinley Boykin from the practice squad to the active roster and waiving veteran tight end John Owens. Saints Executive Vice President/General Manager Mickey Loomis announced the transactions.
Boykin is a first-year player who first came into the NFL when he signed with the Saints as undrafted free agent from the University of Mississippi in May 2006. The 6-1, 289-pound defensive lineman played in NFL Europa with the Cologne Centurions in the spring of 2007 and competed well in this summer’s training camp before being waived at the end of camp and subsequently being signed to the team’s practice squad.
Owens, a fifth-year pro from Notre Dame, was signed by the Saints in November 2006 to provide depth at the tight end position and played in 13 regular season games for the Black and Gold, catching five passes for 48 yards. He also played in both of the team’s postseason games following the ’06 season.

Ok you Boykin fans he made the roster. I hate seeing us loose our only young TE. But I understand the move. Young's knee must be worse than they said.

He played well today, IMO. Man, that guy's got some SERIOUS guns.

Boykin did look good today. It's always good to have a couple of guys to cut during the season so a youngster can play if needed. What I mean is guys like Owens and Bellamy are solid contributors, they can get released before a game and picked back up the next day because they would not garner much interest on the waiver wire, but are still valuable to the Saints. I would think that Owens is going to be back in a day or two. Having guys like that is like having another roster spot.

He at least looked like he wanted to play, and he did. I thought he did a good job.

And what's up with not playing PT, kid runs wild on kickoffs, but they still won't put him in? Beyond me?

PT might not be to good at blocking. McKinley played well.

Agreed joesam get PT some reps. If Stecker or Bush go down he will be back there raw as hell. Let him get some bits and pieces now so if he does get playing time he some time under his belt. At least serve him up med rare
