There are four players who onced donned the black and gold that have a chance to start for their current teams. Jake Delhomme of the Carolina Panthers, Jeff Blake of the Arizona Cardinals, Kerry Collins of the New York Giants, and Marc Bulger of the St. Louis Rams. Also the Pittsburgh Steelers today signed former Saint backup Phil Stambaugh. With Aaron Brooks at the helm with the Saints I don't think anybody would suggest getting one of the former players back to be our starter, that chance given, as AB has talent that far exceeds any of them. However, what this does indicate is that the Saints over the past few years have had some talent at the QB position on the roster. It has been many years since a QB left the Saints to become a starter elsewhere. Bobby Hebert, Archie Manning, and Billy Kilmer (did Steve Walsh ever actually start elsewhere? ) may complete the list. There have been several seasons that the Saints have went through an entire season without a legitimate starter among the group on the roster. Hopefully this indicates that this organizations talent evaluation at this position has improved to a point that we will open the season with good depth at this, the most critical position on the field.

Steve Walsh did go to Chicago and started a few games for them but didn\'t prove himself to be a starting qb in this league. His arm is weak. That is why he was let go from N.O.
Blake was beaten out by AB and he was too costly for a back up role, Bulger never had a chance in N.O. because AB was the man and Jake was everyone\'s favorite back up. Collins was having personal issues during his time here and just drank too much to make it on the team but I am happy to see him turn his life around.
Yea there has been talent here in the past and there is talent here now. People may not be so good with one team but go to another and turn things around. It happens all the time. People grow and learn from all experiences. I don\'t necessarily believe that all of these qb\'s that were let go and became starters for another team means that N.O. caoches don\'t eveluate talent very well. I believe that people change and turn themselves around or adapt to different situations.

I failed to include Danny Wuerfel on the list of quarterbacks that after leaving the Saints actually started a game for another team in my original post. He was signed today to the Washington Redskins where he started 4 games last year. He will be competing with Rob Johnson there for the backup spot to Patrick Ramsey. This suggests to me that the Redskins are not very deep at this postion. Wuerfell could be one play away from being the starter there sometime this year. He is a former Florida Gator under Spurrier and knows the system. He is a young man of great character. Maybe things will click and come together for him this time around. I wish him the best of luck.

I didn\'t mean that the current N.O. coaches were not good talent evaluaters. Just the opposite. When you bring in new people that are capable enough that you can trade or release players as we have then you must believe that you can be better without them. We are better with A.B. as the starter than we would be with any of the others who are still active. This may be also true with Bouman at the helm. This suggests we are more talented and deeper at this position than ever before. All of the players mentioned that are still in the league have come or gone under the current regime. You can\'t have all the cards, but, I like the ones we are playing with at this time. The other point I was making was that it had been many years and many in between where an ex-saint qb left town and had any success with a new and different team.

Other than Bulger and maybe Collins who is it exactly that has gone to another team and had success?
I agree with you that we are playing with \"a good deck\" and probably (my opinion) the best 2 qb\'s the saints have ever had. I like AB and Bouman an awful lot. Either one of them could start for any other team and make them better with only a few exceptions. I was also a Jake fan but I feel we upgraded with the loss of jake and the addition of Bouman. but AB is our man so lets all just get behind him 100%

Just an observation:
Everyone of those QB\'s mentioned would be 2nd or 3rd string on our team still.

Collins got to a Super Bowl so say what you will but that\'s more than any Saints QB ever has...

Bulger is a rising star. Give him time and he can be a stud... hell, he may be this year if Warner doesn\'t get his head out of his @$$.
