Saints fans should appreciate what they have in Brees

If you've got a smart, durable, mentally tough one like the Saints have in Drew Brees, you'd better appreciate your good fortune even when his fortunes are not that good. Not many teams in the NFL these days would ride out a struggling starting quarterback throwing 9 times as many interceptions as touchdowns through an 0-4 stretch as the Saints did Drew Brees in the first quarter of the season.

There was no groundswell of sentiment to replace him, an acknowledgement of the back-up role Jamie Martin silently accepts and the recent memories that Drew Brees provided a year ago and Aaron Brooks provided two seasons ago.

My concern is what do we do if Drew goes down. He has been an ironman out there so far.

No, give me Jim Ninnowski, Karl Sweetan, Steve Ramsey, Ronnie Lee South, Larry Cipa, Richard (Throw it to the other team) Todd. We have had alot of memorable QB's for all the wrong reasons.

Most memorable play from Drew Brees last year was when he left the Carolina (practice game) at the end of the year, his fist held high.

NO Saints QB has ever been such a leader!

I can't think of a better QB for the Saints at this time. This guy does get himself in some rough spots, but knows how to get out of them too. There are other QB's around the league that are better, but Brees is the best fit for the Saints at this time. Brees is an exceptional leader, probably the best in the NFL from a leadership stand point.

vpheughan - Yeah, we had some real winners at QB over the years. Don't forget Steve Walsh, washed up Kenny Stabler, Jim (Put up a lot of yards during garbage time) Everett, washed up Wade Wilson, had Tommy Hodson for a stretch as a backup, Danny Slow Ball, Heath Shuler, Billy Joe whoever, and a host of others. LOL

"washed up Kenny Stabler"

I had Stan Brock tell me one time, that he had never seen anyone with such a presence in the huddle as Ken Stabler. He said when Kenny stepped into the huddle no one said anything. I met Kenny several times and enjoyed every minute of it. Very nice guy and fun to be with.:phat:

I still remember some of the shirts that said 2 Archie's (8+8) = 1 Snake (16)
Heard the snake doing the play by play on sirius radio for the Bama / LSU game.

JOESAM - No doubt, Kenny Stabler was a true leader. It was just unfortunate that by the time the Saints got him he had very little left, physically. He is one of my all time favorite Saints. Too bad the Saints did not get him a few years sooner. I will never forget the play where he was getting sacked, and about half way to the ground threw a pass and completed it. That was totally amazing. Too bad number 16 threw an awful lot of interceptions. I think it was the Rams game, he had two returned for TD's. I think that was the same game that Mike Lansford put us out of the playoffs with a last second kick. This was back in 1983, so my memory may be a little fuzzy on it... LOL

I remember that well. I was sitting in the stands with Stans wife waiting for the win to put them in the playoffs. Talk about some broken hearts. It wasn't a fun night after that.

Heyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy, that was my 4000 post. Wow!
