I think Grant does deserve the contract, believe it or not. I watched a running play (was it running - I'm a little drunk, bear with me). But if I remember right, it was a running play. And the ball was 15 or 20 yards past the line of scrimmage. They were moving on us. And who was in the mix to make the tackle?... Charles Grant. He had NO BUSINESS being in the play that long after the line got passed, but there he was, hustling his heart out.

Plays like that earn my respect.

Don't forget Fujita. He's a keeper too.

This is a good point that he doesn't deserve the contract. He should be making the tackle at the line of scrimmage. He doesn't get pressure on the QB. A person making that kind of money needs to be more than just a run stopper and even that is questionable.

The defense has a ton upgrades to do. If you look at Grants contract and remember the growth of the salary cap his contract does not look that bad in 2009. Smith is young and has plenty of years left in him. With some interior help and LB these two will have their game go to the next level. I still have faith in the two. They need a press CB, a big young DT, a Stud MLB and an aggressive WLB that can take over a game. That will take a couple of years to pull off but there is hope. Let us start of with CB first. Unfortunately Duce maybe out and a RB like Johnathan Stewart maybe on the board. I hope not.

Not on that play, the play I'm talking about. That play went to the other side, there was no way anyone could've made that tackle in his position. But still he still ended up in the mix, which impressed me. We can't deny the guy hustles, he hustled his butt off just to be there in the second level.

I know that he isn't getting the numbers we'd all like to see, and he's not getting enough pressure. But I think I'm with Hagan on this one. Put better players around him, and I think Grant will really shine, will start getting the numbers you'd expect from a marquis contract.
