not paytons fault on reverse

sure it probably shouldn't have been run but
sure it probably should've been stecker on the reverse since reggie this year cant catch or pitch this year
we've seen this play work before
it was all execution
i've seen the replay a million times and tampa totally bought that reggie was going to run to the outside and if reggie would've gotten the ball to Henderson
Henderson would've had nothing but daylight ahead of him
if reggie would've gotten the ball to henderson everyone would be calling Payton a genius today instead of calling for his job
i know we want to win and we want to when now but the coach cant execute the play himself, and aren't we in a rebuilding phase now
i mean really why were our expectations so high, because they did so well last year? but they shouldn't have done that well last year we were lucky in a lot of games last year
reallistically year two of a rebuild shouldn't we expect 7-9 and that would be with a healthy deuce without we should have expected 5-11 not 12-4 like most people were expecting.i mean our team has a coach that is still learning, and a lot of players that are learning.reallistically we shouldn't have a expected a to win a division title or playoff game until at least year 3 of the regime
all i am saying is be REALISTIC we are starting to sound like ALABAMBA fans calling for jobs so soon in a new regime
just like when Bama lost to Mississippi State,LA-Monroe,then god forbid they lose to Auburn; Bama fans were calling for firing Saban saying he was no better than Shula. now who does that sound like. Sounds like some posts i've read on a lotta boards. people saying FIRE Payton, he's HAZ part two
he's not Mike Martz he's not Haz, he shouldn't be Fired, we shouldn't have expected so much so soon. now if by end of year four we haven't won more playoff games or the division, then i'd be on the that bandwagon of getting rid of payton. But we do have to give the man time to learn, get his players in,build his team, rebuild our team

I agree that calling for Payton to be fired is going way too far, but it was his fault. Yeah, it was a poorly executed play...but it shouldn't have been executed at all.

Re: not paytons fault on reverse

well Bush shouldn't have been just Reggie being blamed
if Jamal Brown would've held his position instead of being pushed back Reggie and Devery's being out of sync because Reggie almost ran into the back of Brown, and so he tried to toss it (albeit poorly) instead of handing it off to Henderson
If reggie was "great" like a lot of a lot of us think then cut it up or head out of bounds as he saw the play blowing up instead of improving by tossing the ball half heartedly

Wrong time in the game to be calling that type of play. I believe afterwards Payton even said it was bad call. Had that play been executed, we still would have lost over 5 yards on the play. They had it covered well on both sides.

With the big holes the line were making throughout the game right up the middle, we should have ran it up the gut. Oh well.

Exclamation Re: not paytons fault on reverse

It is how we find a way to loose that is so discouraging. Sometimes it's the players, sometimes, like today, it's the coach. If I see another false start penalty I am going to kill my television.

How can you play a third string quarterback and have him go 15 for 15 passing??

What if we had started our second string quarterback, what would it have been like??

Lots of questions and no answers.

DON"T BLAME REGGIE??? You can blame him. He choked and wasn't the first time he choked this year.

I don't blame people for wanting to stick up for your players based with your heart but when they choke and bite. Then its time to man up and say 'yeah my guy blew it'. He wasn't the only one we were just out played by a better team across the board though. MM was really the only stand out.

Euphoria,

It wasn't Bush's fault. The head coach took blame for the call and I'm sorry but a pitch back double reverse with a defense who is stacking the line to stop a run is not what I would call smart. That play requires too many people to pitch the ball around at a critical time. You can blame reggie all you want, but you're wrong, the play should never have been called and it practically setup the team for failure because 1) the play too way too long to develop and 2) required too much pitching with a stacked line.

What's sad is there was supposed to be another pitch afterward.

And as for your point about Reggie "choking", please name 3 other times Reggie choked on critical plays that cost the Saints the game.

You blame Reggie for the execution of the play. You can call any play you want but if the players don't execute its there fault as well. I am saying everyone is to blame. One bad call doesn't lose you the game 60 minutes will win or lose a game for you.
