Pondering Saints playoff posturing - David Gladow - New Orleans Sports

Saints fans know who to root for -- but who should Saints fans root against?

It hasn't always been pretty, but at least the New Orleans Saints' 2007 season has been unpredictable ... and therefore entertaining.

The Saints evened their record at 7-7 last week thanks to an exciting 31-24 victory over the Arizona Cardinals -- a win that knocked one of the Saints' direct competitors right out of the playoff race and put the Saints squarely back in it.

To put it as succinctly as possible, the Saints now realistically need to win out (against Philadelphia and Chicago) and need help in the form of either a Minnesota loss (against Washington or Denver) or two New York losses (against Buffalo and New England).

Of course, the Saints could also get in via two Minnesota losses, one win versus the Eagles or Bears, and at least one loss by Washington - which doesn't seem exactly probable, but could still happen.

The first two scenarios, on the other hand, are not as unlikely as you might think.

To keep it all straight, here's your handy weekend viewing guide: A quick look at the relevant games to the Saints' playoff chase. Here's what you need to watch (and who you need to root for) Sunday.

That's for starters. But since we need help, we'll have to do some scoreboard watching.

Presuming that the Saints win out (which virtually means winning against the Eagles this week), the teams that we are rooting for this week are Washington and Buffalo.

Re: Pondering Saints playoff posturing

Lets go back 2 games and not do a freakin reverse with a few seconds left in the game and all of those scenarios become very different. Yes, I'm living in the past but winning is so difficult that you can't afford to just give games away.

I want to use several profane words at this moment to explain how I feel about coach and his cute plays at important times of the game, but I won't out of respect for JoeSam only and for no other reason, but Joe knows what I been thinkin and as soon as I leave here I be talkin again.

If the Saints win out they are in because no way the Giants beat the Bills or the Pats.
Please don't bet on this game but the Skins will beat the Vikings by 17 today.
