Football's Tony Elliott dies in Bridgeport

The Connecticut Post Online - Football's Tony Elliott dies in Bridgeport

His brother, Carl Elliott, said Tony Elliott, 48, was found dead apparently from natural causes in his bed by a health care aide.
Elliott, at 6 feet 4 inches tall, played defensive end at Harding High School from 1973 to 1976, where he earned All-American honors as a senior and was selected as the state's most valuable player.
After college, he was selected in 1982 as a fifth-round draft pick by the New Orleans Saints for which he played nose tackle for seven years.

Re: Football's Tony Elliott dies in Bridgeport

"Tony was paralyzed from the waist down by a shooting in Stamford on Feb. 19, 2000," after his retirement, the brother said. "He was confined to a wheelchair and suffered from congestive heart failure, high blood pressure and diabetes."

Wow, tough life. Too young at 48.

RIP #99

I remember him as a player. He was one of those guys you had to like, a high motor type.

During his years with the Saints, Tony funded an annual scholarship, which was given to gifted Harding athletes who also excelled in scholastics and were going on to college.
