Saints backup QB situation

Guys, I know this has been brought up before, but with free agency and the draft coming, it's something that needs to be addressed.

Jamie Martin is going to be a free agent. Do the Saints resign him or let him walk? If the Saints let him walk, or if Martin chooses to walk, is Tyler Palko ready to be a legitimate QB if Brees goes down?

One of the reasons I bring this up is we all know how important it is to have a quality backup. Billy Volek pretty much saved the Chargers season today. Is Jamie Martin or Tyler Palko that same type of guy? If not, what free agent QB would you guys try to sign?

Anybody is better than Martin. I think he was on the roster as a favor to someone. He should retire.

Martin knows the offense. He can manage the game. If Brees goes down for any significant period of time, the team is sunk anyway.

Other than possibly addressing the O-line in some way, the team needs to leave the offense be this offseason. Every move should address the defensive side of the ball.

Martin's age worries me. I don't know enough about Palko.

I never think about Martin's age until he takes that helmet off and show us that enormous bald patch!! YIKES! Please get him out of there.

And no, he doesn't "manage" the game well.

Other than re-tooling the entire defense, back-up qb is pressing need.

No it isn't. Brees makes the offense go. We're not going to get a pro bowl caliber talent to be the backup QB. If Brees goes down for a significant amount of time, you write off the season and hope that the guy can get healthy again. If not, then your problem is finding a Pro Bowl starting QB, not a backup.

Do you really think that Colts or Pats fans are discussing the backup QB?

Write off the season? Not acceptable. Let's face it, we have NO back-up qb. I'm looking for a young kid that Payton can work with. Is Palko the one? Haven't seen enough of him to tell, yet.

Re: Saints backup QB situation

Seeing how Jamie Martin is a free agent and we don't have anyone behind him, back up quarterback is an area of need during this offseason.

I wouldn't mind us bringing back Martin as he knows the offense and has started in this league before. Other guys we should look at are Josh McCown, Quinn Gray, and Cleo Lemon. I think Martin is going to be re-signed though.

If Brees were to go down, I sure hope we wouldn't write off the season. When Bledsoe went down, Brady came in. When Trent Green went down, enter Kurt Warner. When McNabb went down, in came Garcia. That's why it's good to have depth and quality backups.

Everyone is entitled to be stupid, but some abuse the privilege.

All little common sense goes a long way.
