Re: Lets Talk Fa And Draft

FA 1: Faine, Evans, Miller, Wynn, Goodwin, Patten
(Smith, Colston (2009))

UFA 2: Landon Johnson WLB (Bengals), Drayton Florence CB (Chargers), Spencer Johnson DT(Vikings), DT Isaac Sopoaga (49ers), RB Julius Jones (Cowboys), OG Justin Smiley (49ers)

RFA to consider : Anthony Maddox (Texans) DT

1. trade down pick: Aquib Talib, CB/FS, Kansas, 6-2, 193, 4.52
Here is our FS for years to come.

2. Jonathan Goff, MLB, Vanderbilt, 6-2, 238, 4.72
Beast of the SEC

3. Charles Godfrey, CB/FS, Iowa, 6-0, 208, 4.38
Raw and needs work but he has the natural skills

4. Kendall Langford, DL, Hampton, 6-6, 294, 4.95
DE/DT that is BIG AND FAST!!!!!! Worth the risk.

5. Brad Cottam, TE, Tennessee, 6-8, 270, 4.68.
could be the best blocker at his position in this class.

6. Steve Johnson, WR, Kentucky, 6-2, 200, 4.49
Ok Sean can add a WR now. We all know he can play.

7. Brandon Carr, CB, Grand Valley, 6-0, 205, 4.43
Another diamond in the ruff and should go higher than this.

Ok here a completely defensive minded FA and draft. Get the knives sharpened because to do this we are going to have a lot of slicing and dicing to do. I am banking that saints are happy with the development of the past 2 years of offensive drafts.
We go with pass rush at DT and LB to help out the secondary. At CB we add a vet and solid young CB that need time but they have the above average natural skills needed for the position.

Chargers.com - Team » Roster » #33 Michael Turner | RB

Not sure if hes a free agent this year but this kid is pretty solid. I dont know what we are gonna do with Deuce, but do yall think we might really consider a good power back in the draft and free agent pick ups??

P.S. I know our defense is #1 on our to do list to work on during the offseason.

Can't help ask why? It seems pretty obvious that a strong insider runner is the right complement for Reggie, and Julius isn't the guy for this job. Turner would be a much better option, with only a marginally higher price tag.

That said, this draft class is deep enough that we could easily grab a solid back early on the second day if PT isn't good enough to get the job done.

BTW... Long time lurker, first time post. Nice forum guys!

Re: Lets Talk Fa And Draft

Will this Saints coach, who is so offensive minded, try to get great defensive players? I don't know.

Re: Lets Talk Fa And Draft

Turner will be two much money thats all. I think JJ can be had for alot less and he knows Sean's system. I did not sign one high priced FA. Most are middle level FA, Young and still have upside to them. Ok some are upper there but really not that costly. A couple of gambles on players that never panned out since being drafted. Keep the cap low because you have Smith and Colston to sign in 2009. It is going to take more than a year to build the secondary. Besides I view this as a weak FA group once the tags are made it will be even weaker.
When I look at backup players and rotational guys they must all be able to play SP. I think each one should be an upgrade. We need to gamble and hope for the same kind of results we got with the offense in 2006.
Should leave us some cash for any surprise FA that become cap cuts.

Re: Lets Talk Fa And Draft

There's a reason the Patriots went undefeated this year. They went out and signed the best defensive player last year in free agency and traded for the best offensive player.

We must sign TOP TALENT and stop this middle of the road crap with the likes of Simmons, Kaseviharn, Simenoux, David. We need impact players on D at LB, DT, CB, and FS. We probably need two at each of those positions.

Re: Lets Talk Fa And Draft

They could go out and spend the money because they had the depth on the team to replace players that left as FA or got traded away. First you draft and then you get cute. Never let players walk away if you can help it. GET PICKS. there are no holy cows on that team.
