Saints must improve on defense, settle on a kicker this offseason

"We had high expectations heading into the season," Saints coach Sean Payton said, "and we'll begin now the process of evaluating not only our own players, but then the upcoming players that will be available in free agency and doing everything possible to improve this team so that we're not sitting in this position at this time next year."

The Saints were 7-9 last season and gave up 24.2 points per game. They also gave up 348.1 yards per game on defense. That total was the seventh-worst in 2007.
