FOX Sports on MSN - NFL - New Orleans Saints Inside Slant

"I think we can help ourselves. I think the approach that we'll take has been the same approach -- when the draft comes, you're always looking to try to take the best player on the board," Payton said. "In free agency, you're trying to identify some needs that you feel like you need to fill to immediately help your team."

Hopefully, Payton is smoke screening. This draft needs to be all about the defense, period. Get the 2008 defense in better shape with youngsters, and they should go deep into the playoffs. By 2009 the Saints could find themselves as an elite team.

Find a Wide Reciever to complement Colston (after you lock him into a 20 year guaranteed contract, lol). Speaking of which, is Donte on a 1 year deal with the Pats? After that, free agency, the draft, midnight sweats, occasional dreams, conversations with the wife and kids, should all focus on defense (with an occasional possible tight end and line help thrown in for variation). Conversations should go like this:
Mrs. Payton: Sean, we're out of milk and I need you to pick up the kids after school today.
Sean Payton: Can milk blitz?!!!!! When's the last time you saw the kids go sideline to sideline?!!!! Any of those jerks 6 foot plus and run a 4.3? Outjump Moss? To heck with the kids and milk, if they have the competetive spirit they'll come to us!!!
Mrs. Payton: Ummm....Sean....?

I am sick of reading these types of articles, they just make me want to vomit. See you guys tomorrow. Hopefully something Smart and Intellegent will come out of the Saints camp by then.

Sap,

Did you read the article? I'll quote some of it:

The Saints will need defense, defense and more defense if they expect to return to the playoffs after a disappointing 7-9 season -- one in which the memories of big play after big play will linger throughout the offseason.

"Defensively, we didn't do a good enough job of avoiding the big plays," said second-year coach Sean Payton, whose team allowed 54 pass plays of 20 yards or longer with 12 producing touchdowns. "Whether it's above our head or in front of us for the first down, we weren't as good as we would have liked, obviously."
So those sounds like the right words.

Man, he knew that last year. What was "Done" about? He brought in Jason David. The entire NFL world knew we had a defensive issue. Give us results and results that make this a better team. Don't take us from an NFC Championship one year then lead us into a 7-9 year and say "Well, we have issues with giving up big plays". Wasn't that the same issue as last year?????

It didn't get better, it got worse.
