The Big Fix

Lets fix the secondary with the draft and heres how, well its easy really all you need is three corners in the first four rounds.

Round #1 Leodis McKelvin
Round #2 Jach Ikegwuonu
Round #3 Chevis Jackson
Round #4 Patrick Lee

That would fix the problem and give us youth on the team plus there would be a ton of compition in training camp.

And whoever doesn't make the roster, we'll just cut them... since we only have so many roster spots for corners. The year after when we realize we need a linebacker, we'll draft 4 in a row too. Makes perfect sense.

I'd also like to point out your second round fix is out for the 2008 season as he tore something working out. Chevis Jackson runs a 4.6 and will be a cover 2 corner... definitely a fit here. At 10, it will probably be too high for McKevlin.

We can draft 7 corners and it wouldn't improve our secondary unless we can get pressure on the quarterback.

I too think it would be ridiculous to draft three straight corners. Ok so draft one in the first or second round but draft the right one and you dont need all the useless roster drops. Also draft a LB and another big DT.

Its all a crap shoot at this point but if I'm picking 10 I'm not taking a CB/DB. LB or DT are a must and lets hope Loomis can overcome last years slump in FA to get some solid help in the secondary. No draft pick is gonna help or upgrade our secondary from the shelling it took last year.

bill walsh drafted 3 DBs in a row and it worked for him :p...

but yeah, lets not do this. we're going to draft ellis, balmer, talib or mckelvin in the first round, then a LB in the 2nd round. CB in the 3rd.

I agree with Papz... if you don't get pressure on the QB I don't care who you draft we are going to have the same problem. Draft pass rushers, first and foremost. Then address CB's.

You can argue it the other way too. If you can't lock on the receivers long enough for the pass rush to get there, then you are gonna have the same problem. I dont think we need to be going for a DE at 10 unless we plan on letting Smith walk as a FA. Good situational pass rushers can be found in the middle rounds ala Mark Anderson and Alex Brown of the Bears, 6th and 4th round picks respectively.

Re: The Big Fix

We have two solid DE's that are capable of getting to the passer as they've proven in the past. We need someone in the middle to get that penetration we so desperately need... or a linebacker that can provide a rush on the outside. I agree that pass rushing specialist can easily be found in the mid rounds of the draft that which we should address there. A corner can only hold his ground so long... it's more important to be able to apply pressure on the qb first and foremost.

It's a deep corner draft and we should be able to snag a solid corner with our 2nd rounder... *crosses fingers for Cromartie* We need to address the front 7 with our first pick imo.
