Colston hopes to ink long-term deal with N.O.

SunHerald.com : Colston hopes to ink long-term deal with N.O.

I hope so, but I really haven't talked much football or much business with him the past couple of weeks," Colston said, who was joined at the signing by tailback Pierre Thomas. "It's been mostly about giving my body a chance to rest up and rest up mentally, too. We'll meet up and talk during the next couple of weeks."

Colston hired Segal as his agent prior to last year's training camp. Segal also represents Reggie Bush and defensive end Will Smith, who will also become a free agent after the 2008 season.

I love it. they all have the same agent. That always speeds things up. Three birds one stone and fewer games played by both sides

Re: Colston hopes to ink long-term deal with N.O.

"I would love to because there is no other team that I would rather play for," (Colston) said. "I think we've got a great thing going here in New Orleans. We've got a great core group of guys and probably the greatest fans in the game. I would love to get a long-term deal and be locked in and let everyone else know that I don't want to be anywhere else."

"It's a difficult thing to balance, but I haven't really looked at that," Thomas said. "A couple of people have hit me with it, but that's not my focus. My focus is trying to get better and learn as much as I can."
That was Thomas' response to the question of how much playing time he thinks have next season.

These are great things to hear from young guys that have great talent. I hope to see them both in New Orleans for a long time.

I'll reiterate, this needed to be done yesterday. The longer it takes, the more is going to cost the Saints.

Hope shouldn't even be in this. This should have been done when the clock read 00:00 in Chi-town. T.R. is right, in the the longer this takes the more it will cost.

Re: Colston hopes to ink long-term deal with N.O.

Nothing stands out more in the article than "Colston's 168 receptions in his 1st two years are the most ever for a wrs 1st two years".
He appears to be a great character guy and the sky is the limit with his physical ability. Even though he is still under contract give him a 6 yr extension and pay the man for being on the field and making plays. Wonder how his salary compares to Meachum who never played a snap or Henderson who never caught a ball. Need to correct that about Henderson, who caught every other ball. Henderson may have a spot on the team as a cb but dont put him in any position that has receiver as part of the title.

Re: Colston hopes to ink long-term deal with N.O.

The reason why Colston deserves to get paid actually has many reasons to it. Besides all the stats he has generated, he is a guy who quietly goes to work and always does his job. He is the kind of guy you simply build a franchise around. Exceptional character, low maintenance player, exceptional work ethics, and not to mention is an elite receiver in only his second year. Yeah, pay this guy now, and don't let it ever get ugly with his contract.

I have made the same point about moving him to the secondary. I thought WR that don't have great hands become CB's.
