I've never thought he was worthy of the money he gets...at least from a statistical standpoint. He had 1 ten sack season and everything else was 6, 2.5, 3, etc...

Of course, we could change to a 3-4...
Well if that's the only thing that you're judging Grant on, then you've completely ignored his best asset as a defensive end: run support. He might not be a great pass rusher, but he is always a factor in the run game. He does a very job of inside contain when teams run at his end. I've always been a big Grant supporter because I know that he brings a lot more to the table than just sacks. Looking at his statistics from last year would be a mistake because he was hurt almost the entire season, yet tried to play through the injuries. I know I probably sound like a bit of a homer, but I really believe that Grant is a very good player. He's also been a good team guy who has represented the organization well.

Re: Charles Grant

I think if we had a DT, with a meanstreak next to Grant, we would see a whole new line. With the double teams that Grant, and Smith get, it's not very hard to see where the weakness lies, thats for sure. This draft coming up, is deep with defensive players. Maybe we should consider trading down, and getting another second, or possibly another third rounder. We have a looooong grocery list. And you know what they say, it's not good to go to the grocery store hungry.....

Grant is a very good run stopper. Hence the move to DT. I just think his skill set and size make him an ideal 3-gap player. As it stands today, we have 2 DEs under contract. Cooper is a RFA, though. I would not be surprised if we draft a DE at 10. I think both Smith and Grant need fires lit under their rears and a promising rookie could do that.
