Let the DTs slide...

this is a discussion within the Saints Community Forum; You have to think with Jenkins to the Jets and Rogers to the Bengals, there is a good chance Dorsey or Ellis could slide to 10... This could be the defensive version of the offseason from two years ago....

Good call! If we can get another DT in the rotation, those Cs and Gs are going to have a tough time getting to Vilma.

Man that would cause a lot of frustration on who we should take. Flowers or McKelvin at CB vs. Dorsey. Not an easy decision

You pick Dorsey. You're not going to find a bigger fan of McKelvin than me, but there are a ton of good CBs this year (Flowers, Jenkins, Rodgers-Cromartie, McKelvin, Talib, Cason, the list goes on). Francise DTs don't come out every year, and you hardly ever see two of the caliber of Dorsey and Ellis in the same draft. Even though DT may not be as big of a need as CB, it's still a need, plus we can address CB with the #40 pick and get almost as much player as we would at 10 for less money.

I think with as shallow as the DT position is in this draft you take Dorsey. We will be able to get a solid CB or LB in the 2nd round

Re: Let the DTs slide...

You would be correct if the Jets and Bengals were thinking about drafting a defensive tackle which in my opinion neither one was going to do that.

The Bengals would draft Gholston to replace Justin Smith and the Jets will get McFadden, they need a running back. Dorsey will go to the Rams and Ellis will fall to Oakland or Baltimore if they don't need a QB at which point they will either land Ryan or Brohm whomever is available.

The Falcons need a DT or a QB so Dorsey or Ellis could go to them.

I personally don't want Ellis, he didn't impress me at all during the combine and I would rather have Stroud in FA or Dre Moore or Trevor Laws with #40.

If we sign Gay or Reeves at CB we will draft a CB at #10. Jenkins, Talib or McElvin take your pick.

If Dorsey or Ellis there at #10, you take it and don't ask questions, period. That's a good point tapout about one of the DTs sliding now that the teams previously believed to be looking for a DT has acquired one in FA.

Re: Let the DTs slide...

McShay's newest mock has Dorsey at 4, McKelvin at 8, Ellis at 9, and Rivers at 10. I can't see Oakland paying Dorsey #4 money after that ridiculous Tommy Kelly contract. And I can't see Cinci taking a DT with Rogers in the fold and so many other defensive needs.

So it's a real possibility that one of them will be there at 10, and either one could make an immediate impact on defense. Just about any CB in this draft will take time to adjust to the league.

I wonder how much Randall Gay is going to ask for tomorrow? His metrics from last season were pretty good.
