1st quarter analysis

Are we sure we have new players on defense? It sure looked like the same old crap. No pressure on the QB, the LB\'s did nothing except Rogers on one play. Thomas got burned for a T.D. and nobody was tackling worth a damn. I know it is early but damn when 4 guys miss someone for a 30+ yard gain, thats ugly. Sure hope the second quarter looks better.

1) The defense does have me a bit worried. I really was upset be the missed interception by Thomas, And the missed tackles on the chuck second series.
2) Brooks looked good, I like the roll out completion on the first throw. Also the throw away instead of backpeddling.
3)a couple of missed passes (very catchable) and Keaton did NOT look good.

I think my impressions for now with be of hopes that our sitting starters will make the difference.

Sorry to say, saint5221, but the 2nd quarter looks worse than the first. More missed tackles, especially that last punt return that should have been stopped immediately, but was instead returned for a TD.

I agree that Brooks looked much improved and Keaton seemed to get his head in the game in the 2nd. But all in all, we just don\'t look like we\'ve got it together on either side of the ball.

Let\'s just hope all these players we\'ve been hearing so much good stuff about and are pinning our hopes of improvement show a lot more talent in the second half.

no matter how bad we\'re looking, i am still really optimistic. I read somewhere that one of the benefits of preason games is that you actually get to tackle. In training camp you don\'t. So for that reason, i feel it\'s just the rust wearing off, along with the fact its so many new players.

On offense, as soon as Bouman came in the game, it seemed to me that it was all about Keaton. We had something like 3 straight 3 and outs, but the majority of the calls were going to Keaton. I\'m not worried about the offense even though there were far too many dropped passes. And where were the passes to the coveted new TE\'s???

Last thing, on that punt return for a TD, can any tell if it was first string special teams?

Sorry Creole_t, I just can\'t write the missed tackle off that easily to rustiness. The Eagles certainly are not missing tackles like our boys are and it\'s their first preseason game too. We just need to work a lot more on BASIC fundametsls!

But I was happy to see Keaton getting a lot of touches. We need to groom a decent back-up RB. 10 there needs to be someone that can be the goto guy if Duece ever gets hurt (I hope it won\'t ever happen, but chances are that it will sooner or later). And 2) if evry opponent knows that Duece is our ONLY running threat, they will always key on him and make him much less effective. A second solid threat back makes Duece even more dangerous.

As far as special teams players on that botched punt coverage, I don\'t know who was in at the time. But it sure did look pitiful. Funny thing though, just before that blown play, I was about to post that besides the series Brooks played and the spectacular retun work by Lewis, the only real bright spot was special teams. Now I have to wonder if we might have some problems there that need fixing before the regular season starts.

I know I\'m *****ing right now, but don\'t think that all I want to do is run down our team. I still believe that they will get their **** together and and post a better than .500 season (hopefully significantly better), but it just may be a little painful for us fans while they get things together.

Yeah, I think I was reaching quite a bit with the whole rustiness bit. But hopefully when we have all of our starters on defense we\'ll look better. Even my personally prized Tebucky Jones missed a couple of tackles and possible pass knockdowns. I know this will sound like a broken record, but It\'ll only get better.......(then again, it can\'t really get much worse)

I think Gardner was in on that Punt for a TD, so no it wasn\'t all first team special teams.

Mel Mitchell looked good in filling the Sammy Knight run stuffing role, and given that he is quicker than Sammy he should cover the DB role better, so that is looking up.
