Re: Trading Up to get Dorsey

I think if Dorsey falls past the number 5 spot, there has to be strong consideration to trade up and grab him. To me it is worth it to get a potential difference maker. All I know is when he was playing at his best that LSU defense was remarkable. When he was limited that great defense became very suspect. To me this would be a good gamble to take by trading up and getting him. I just wouldn't want to have to trade into the top 5 to get him. That would be way too costly for a team that is still trying to build a defense.

actually the 10th pick is worth a value of 1300 pts and the 5th pick is worth 1700 pts so all it would really take for us to get up to the top 5 would be a 2nd round pick next year... our 2nd round pick this year has a value of 490 pts so KC would also have to include a 4th round pick this year to make the trade workout

also, in retrospect, for us to trade back and pick up a decent 2nd round pick.. we would have to move back in the 1st round to about pick 18-20 or so...

Which would be more than enough to secure the premier safety in this draft - probably the one position we need more than any other.

Can't help but think back a few years ago.
I was happily convinced that we were going to take Thomas Smith from UGA.
We took Jamaal Brown from OU instead.
Panthers got Smith. I was shocked.
Happy now!
What is the problem with getting competent safeties for this team?
I have tried to be optimistic............

I think a guy like Craig Steltz would be a good fit for the Saints, the kid from Arkansas State wouldn't be a bad option either.
I love Steltz. His Heart. His dedication. His ....Tigerness b/cause I Heart Tigers.
Problem comes in when U and I Heart Tigers.
If steltz is an all-pro with a different team then cool.
Let the Saints draft him and he is anything BUT ALL-PRO then he was a HOMER PICK!
Can't Win Bro.
I believe that Craig Steltz is an Amazing Human Being.
Draft Status be damned!
Good Kid should get a chance!
BTW.... who else ?

Re: Trading Up to get Dorsey

There's no way we trade up to get Dorsey. He's most likely going in the top 4 and that will be solidified after his pro day next week.

Ellis is another matter entirely. If he's still available after the Jets pick at 6 I believe we have to pull the trigger and trade with New England to move up and get him. This guy is a beast and along with the rest of our upgraded front 7 should be enough to make just about any secondary look like world beaters. We need a pass rush more than anything in my opinion. Last season you could've put Champ Bailey in our secondary and he would've looked average because opposing quarterbacks had all day to throw against us.

If Ellis isn't there and McKelvin (my best guess is that if Ellis isn't there and we don't trade with New England, their intent is to select McKelvin at 7) isn't there at 10 I think the best thing to do is try and trade down to later in the 1st round and at that point take the best CB/S/LB on the board and use the next pick on a CB or LB as well.
