No postseason

Just to keep things in perspective, does anyone rememeber the year 1999. That's the year Ditka led the Saints to a 3-13 record. We had the 29th ranked offense in the league and the 28th ranked defense in the league.

Now, I'm no genius here but, to me, it would seem like it would take a while to turn around a franchise as bad as this one.

Haslett led the saints to the playoffs the very next year and while the 2 following years have ended in disappointment, it's not like we have been near the bottom of the league either.

Has the coaching staff made mistakes? YES!! Are there better coaches? YES!!

No matter what anyone's opinion about the coaching staff might be, the fact is that they took a team that was no better or maybe even worse than an expanision team, that had given up all of it's draft picks in the Ricky Williams trade and brought a winning team to New Orleans.

Some fans continually moan and groan over what terrible coaching the Saints have and I'll be the first one to admit that there have been mistakes made, but, it really annoys me that we have as good a team as what we do, and a real chance to go to the super bowl this year if the defense has improved, and all I hear is how bad the coaching staff has done.

From http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/news?slu...=tsn&type=lgns

This is from yahoo and sporting news it gives a fair analysis of the coaching staff.

\"Haslett coaches the game the way he played it -- with passion, aggressiveness and a willingness to take risks. He is unconventional on both sides of the ball. He has used faked punts and field-goal attempts and opened games with onside kicks.

Sometimes Haslett is fearless to a fault. He frustrates fans with his stubborn penchant for going for two-point conversions in the first halves of games. His strategy always has the potential to come back to haunt his team. His go-for-broke philosophy sells well with his players, however. Haslett likes his team to play with a swagger and, more often than not, it does.

However, that confident nature might also be one of Haslett\'s biggest weaknesses. His teams tend to play to the level of their competition. They often struggle against inferior opponents and have been inconsistent, not only from game to game but sometimes from half to half.

One of Haslett\'s most underrated strengths is his acumen for hiring good assistants. The Saints have one of the league\'s best staffs and Haslett lets them coach, and it all starts with the coordinators.

Defensive coordinator Rick Venturi is a respected teacher and technician. His staff is loaded with good young assistants, including line coach Sam Clancy, linebackers coach Winston Moss and secondary coach Joe Baker. All are good motivators who relate well to their players.

Mike McCarthy is one of the league\'s brightest offensive minds. Offensive line coach Jack Henry and special teams coach Al Everest also are regarded as among the best by their peers.\"

Can you go back to yahoo and find me a real negative assessment of a coaching staff? Otherwise it\'s pretty meaningless. I suspect they won\'t come down too hard on anyone as they are journalists and have to work with them (or they are writers for sporting news whose oppinion is as good as ours).
Before a season starts \"experts\" are often cautious. Just look at the rankings which put the Saints at #7. He still had mostly positive things to say about the team he ranked #20 (\'They could well be the big surprise of the season\' or something like that). Guess it\'s better to just say \"too close to call\" than to get your predictions thrown back in your face. I don\'t really like this tip-toeing, but I don\'t have to make a living writing about sports.

I was dreamin\' when I wrote this
Forgive me if it goes astray

But when I woke up this mornin\'
Coulda sworn it was judgment day

The sky was all purple
There were people runnin\' everywhere

Tryin\' 2 run from the destruction
U know I didn\'t even care

\'Cuz they say two thousand zero zero party over
Oops out of time
So tonight I\'m gonna party like it\'s 1999

I was dreamin\' when I wrote this
So sue me if I go 2 fast

But life is just a party
And parties weren\'t meant 2 last

War is all around us
My mind says prepare 2 fight

So if I gotta die
I\'m gonna listen 2 my body tonight

Yeah, they say two thousand zero zero party over
Oops out of time
So tonight I\'m gonna party like it\'s 1999
Yeah

Lemme tell ya somethin\'
If U didn\'t come 2 party
Don\'t bother knockin\' on my door
I got a lion in my pocket
And baby he\'s ready 2 roar

Yeah, everybody\'s got a bomb
We could all die any day
But before I\'ll let that happen
I\'ll dance my life away

They say two thousand zero zero party over
Oops out of time
We\'re runnin\' outta time
So tonight we gonna, we gonna (Tonight I\'m gonna party like it\'s 1999)

Say it 1 more time
Two thousand zero zero party over
Oops out of time
No, no
So tonight we gonna, we gonna (Tonight I\'m gonna party like it\'s 1999)

Alright, it\'s 1999
You say it, 1999
1999
1999 don\'t stop, don\'t stop, say it 1 more time

Two thousand zero zero party over
Oops out of time
Yeah, Yeah
So tonight we gonna, we gonna (Tonight I\'m gonna party like it\'s 1999)

Yeah, 1999
Don\'tcha wanna go
Don\'tcha wanna go
We could all die any day
I don\'t wanna die
I\'d rather dance
