Colston gets knee scoped, cleaned but will be ready to go soon

METAIRIE - Add receiver Marques Colston to the list of those unable to perform fully at the beginning of Saints offseason training.

Saints receiver Marques Colston expects to be back fully healthy this offseason.

Like Deuce McAllister, like Mike McKenzie, like Jonathan Vilma, Colston is coming off of knee surgery.

But don’t worry, he said. It’s nothing big.

“Had a scope to clean a lot of things out of there,” Colston said. “I had a lot of irritation in there. Now’s the time to clean up and get healthy.”

He expects to be back running and cutting and being Marques Colston in two to three weeks.

“I’m still limited as far as conditioning goes,” he said. “I’m getting my conditioning on the bike. If I needed to, I probably could go. But it’s just not smart at this point. Just (want to) get as healthy as possible.”

Colston was banged up for most of the season. He didn't miss any games, but had a knee tweak before the year, a chest contusion and a hand injury. With the season nearly three months gone, those injuries are healed, he said.

MC an RFA after 08

Colston become a restricted free agent after this season, meaning the Saints would have to match any offer from another team to keep the young receiver around.

But don’t ask him about it. He doesn’t know.

“It’s not even really something I’ve thought about,” Colston said.

Asked if his agent has been in contact with the Saints to try to get a contract done prior to the season, Colston wasn’t sure.

“To be honest, I don’t really know,” he said. “I honestly have not been in contact with that.”

Insanity is defined as doing the same thing over, over, and over again...and expecting a different outcome!

I'd really like to see the Saints try to work out a contract with him before the season starts.
I don't know if I have the forgiveness in me if they were to let him get away.

It's a routine procedure lots of guys have... he'll be fine and ready for camp. We should definitely sit him out the majority of preseason games. He and Brees already have that connection... no need to risk injury.

I thought they already did extend his contract???? They prob will. The Saints know not to let one of the best recievers in the league to slip away.

Love MC. But don't believe this for one second.
I like to believe that he can say this because the Saints have already made strides toward extending his contract.

If you or I were in this situation it would TOTALLY! be on our radar.
From:
A guy who nearly went undrafted.
An NFL career not likely.
To:
One ankle injury away from Rookie of the Year.
Centerpiece of the NFL's most Dynamic Offense.

I think it is safe to say that he realizes that there is (BIG!) money involved in his future.

Very nice to see that it isn't spewed all over the media outlets though.

Memo to Loomis: LOCK UP MARQUES COLSTON NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm no one.
Who are you?

Gee, I hope the Saints don't screw around with this. Get this guy locked up for the next 7 years and call it a day.
