Cromartie?

Is Cromartie the most overated player in the draft or is it just me? Any player that jumps that far in such a small amount of time is just there because of his post-season numbers, not unlike a player named Mike Mamula. He came out of nowhere and got drafted high and never did anything. Lets take a player that can win at a high level and stop getting small school players.

LOL talk about it. Earlier a 3rd or 4th round sleeper to top 20 pick. Scares me. what was he doing all year long?

I lived through the Mamula experiment in Philly and I can safely say that they drafted him almost purley on his athleticism displayed at the NFL Combines thinking that would translate into a freakish DE like LT. The only impact he ended up having is a new stat for the NFL called "Hurries", referring to putting pressure on the QB without actually recording a sack. Eagle fans still affectionately refer to them as "Mamulas".

But your point is well taken Husker. This franchise has developed a habit of searching outside of the box looking for that lightning in a bottle player (a la Colston) and it doesn't really seem to pay off from a impact standpoint, although payroll wise, its prudent. Sometimes when you want Filet Mignon, you have to pay the top dollar to get it. Try to get it for hamburger prices and you're likely to end up severely disappointed.

It could be considered a very risky move to pick him up in the first 20 picks. I really like the kid, but I have to agree with the WTH??? top 7 pick. I really thought he would be a 2nd or a 3rd pick. He is going to have more pressure on him to perform (right outta the box) than anyother player taken in the 1st round. I hope he can handle it.

I totally agree and I was saying the same thing about DRC on another thread. Some guys on that thread were talking about how good DRC will be and how we need to get him at 10. The point that I brought up was that before the senior bowl very few average fans had even heard of him and then all of the sudden you got guys talking like they've known about him the whole time. Now you have people who have never even seen him play proclaiming him as the second coming of Deion.

It's so funny how people get caught up in the hype surrounding certain players every year about this time. I was told to go to youtube and watch DRC's highlight video. The guy said that after I watched the video I would "understand why we need DRC". So I watched it and yeah he looks like a freakin animal but I also noticed that he was the only real athlete on the field in his games. He was a man among boys. Don't get me wrong, the guy has talent and lots of it but it takes alot more than raw talent to be a NFL starter. He has the tools to be a great CB with proper coaching but that will take some time. I against taking any of this year's CBs at #10. IMHO none of them are worthy of such a high pick. I'd rather us get a safer player like Ellis or Rivers who would be more likely to start this year.

in my eyes, if he didnt have cromartie in his last name and his cousin didnt have the year he had this year, we wouldnt be having this discussion. he'd be picked up in the later rounds. i think he has a lot of potential, but a top 10 pick? no way.

If we go by your small school theory then I guess we shouldn't have drafted Colston.

You can't RATE anyone who hasn't played..
THE WHOLE LEVEL OF COMPETITION thing is TOTAL BS! We do better drafting the freaks of smaller schools than drafting kids from big time schools to begin with..

How is he overrated when he did compete against the best and blew them all out of the water..? Please explain? I'm actually beginning to respect the smaller schools players..

This kid has even Deion Sanders raving about his feet work. He's not just a kid with freakish ability. he actually has excellent feet work to go along with tremendous size.. The dude blocked 8 kicks in college.. regardless of what competition you play against that's insane.

No one is marketing this kid, but his play. Get real. You want to talk about "all hype".. then talk about Matt Ryan who is benefitting from a WEAK ASS qb class..
