Profootballtalk.com disputes a Newark Star-Ledger report that the Giants turned down an offer of the Saints' second-round pick and SS Roman Harper in exchange for Jeremy Shockey earlier this offseason.

PFT's source says the Giants asked for the second-rounder and Harper, but the Saints wouldn't go that high.

GIANTS WILLING TO MOVE SHOCKEY

In response to our blurb regarding a report in the Newark Star-Ledger that the New Orleans Saints offered a second-round pick and safety Roman Harper for Giants tight end Jeremy Shockey, a source with knowledge of the discussions tells us that the Giants wanted a two and Harper, and that the Saints refused.

We don’t know what if anything the Saints offered for Shockey. But the fact that the Giants articulated a trade request for Shockey tells us that they’re willing to move on without him.

And for good reason. He has been a disruptive influence in the organization, and we think it’s no coincidence that quarterback Eli Manning came of age once Shockey was done for the year with a broken leg.

Re: Saints Shockey Update

Well, I said it on the other thread, so I guess I'll basically give a quick summary here:

I'd love to do the deal for a 2nd and Bullocks, but giving away Harper scares me because then Bullocks would have to play again, and he's terrible.

Shockey would bring something that this team hasn't seen in decades, a Pro Bowl tight end. Mix him in with Colston, Reggie, and Drew Brees, and we instantly have the best offense in the NFC.

Good for us!!! New York wants entirely too much for Shockey. I'd give a third for him, though. Of course, his contract would have to have a "SHUT THE F*** UP" clause in it.

Make the Shockey trade go away, Loomis! The risk is not worth the chance for reward.

Re: Saints Shockey Update

... Shockey for Bullocks and a 3rd, I'd take it.

Shockey is viewed as disruptive, but look at his Giants career. He came in under Fassel w/ K. Collins as his QB, then got to play under Emperor Palpatine, and no leadership in the huddle: Tiki whining and Eli not putting Tiki on his place.

and if you look at the situation objectively, it was more Tiki leaving than Shockey getting hurt that helped Eli. The first half of the season it wasn't the offense that was playing bad, it was the defense. Once the defense caught up with the offense and the Giants achieved balance, then the Giants went on their run.

Besides, should Shockey come to N.O., his QB is going to be Drew Brees, and Drew takes no crap from anyone. He'll put Shockey on his place, and will not let Shockey influence his offense.

Re: Saints Shockey Update

What scares me is - who's gonna replace Harper if we do this deal? Certainly not Bullocks. KK? Is that the plan? As it stands, we're already looking for a starting safety in this years draft. But if KK's not going to start, then we're looking for two, minus a draft pick.

I dunno about this one. I'd love to have Shockey, but damn, our offense is already pretty good, and our secondary is in even worse shape after this trade.
