Re: Can the draft get here already!!!!!!

I'm just excited about the talent in this years draft. We will get 2 great quality guys with our picks. I'm still not sure whether we should go DT or CB in the first round but im expecting either Dan Conner or Jerod Mayo to fall to the second round and hopefully the FO can pull the trigger and i would def love to see us move up in the second and get one of those guys if they fall.

Re: Can the draft get here already!!!!!!

It's a safe bet that they go in the 1st because quite a few teams need LBs and may be willing to reach to fill a need. Pakowitz, Who do you like better out of Mayo and Connor? Who goes first?

personally I think Connor is better, but Mayo will go first because he has more upside, more of an athlete

Hagan, I have read a few "analysts" having the Saints taking Erin Henderson, LB, from Maryland in the second round. Some have Henderson being selected ahead of Lofton and Mayo (and neither of them selected in round 1). Thoughts?

BTW; if Dorsey and Ellis are gone in round 1 prior to #10...Rivals.com has the Saints taking Mike Jenkins. IMHO, I just don't see it! I believe the need is there and the Saints will select a corner at #10...just not Jenkins.

Somehow...I do not think Payton can help himself and will go TE in the third round. Rucker from Missouri has been mentioned several times as the possible selection. Thoughts?

Insanity is defined as doing the same thing over, over, and over again...and expecting a different outcome!

Re: Can the draft get here already!!!!!!

Dan Connor, Penn St., 6030, 233, 4.65 (ILB/OLB)
Blue collar. A tad undersized and needs to bulk up. Needs to improve pass coverage. Weakside prospect who carries a pro grade similar to Paul Posluszny's a year ago.

Quentin Groves, Auburn, 6030, 254, 4.57, (DE/OLB)
Groves has ideal size and athleticism to play the 3-4 OLB position at the next level. He could also continue to add bulk and play 4-3 pass-rush DE for some.

Erin Henderson, Maryland, 6028, 244, 4.73 (ILB/OLB)
Great size and speed and one of the top LB’s. He is a tough player. He is not as physically gifted as some of the other linebackers, but he is no slouch either.

Jerod Mayo, Tennessee, 6013, 242, 4.54 (ILB/OLB)
Undersized middle 'backer in a Cover 2 or on the weakside.
knee injury: missed the final 4 games of 2005 and playing through a knee injury at the end of 2006.

Cliff Avril, Purdue, 6030, 251, 4.51 (DE/OLB)
Great size to play linebacker and he can be an effective 4-3 defensive end. I really like this kid. If we tade back in round 2

Xavier Adibi Virginia Tech 6-13/4 232 4.69 (ILB/OLB/S)
Some NFL teams will look at Adibi's size and pick a stronger linebacker, but with his speed and agility, combined with the fact he is very aware of what is going on in front of him, makes him a solid pick for a weakside linebacker position. Adibi gets excellent depth on his pass drops, and a team could choose to convert him to strong safety.

Curtis Lofton, Oklahoma, 6000, 246, 4.78 (ILB)
Is top top middle linebacker available and one of the overall best linebackers in this draft.

Here is how I have them rated as a group for round 1/2. It all comes down to the second position they can play. I have problems with Lofton because he is strictly a ILB.
