Doubts motivate Meachem through rookie campaign

SunHerald.com : Doubts motivate Meachem through rookie campaign

It's very motivational to hear somebody say, 'Oh, well, he was a bust,'" Meachem said. "So (you want) to prove everybody wrong and just let everybody know you weren't a bust, and you're going to do what you're supposed to do."

Meachem's lack of progress has been well documented through his virtually non-existent rookie campaign. He never caught a pass, nor did he ever touch the field. He never even suited up as he spent all 16 gamedays last season in black wind pants and a long-sleeve gold shirt not dressed to play

They compared this kid to Roy Williams coming out. If he's even 80% as good as Roy our offense will be fierce.

I forgot, but who was Johnathan Sullivan compared with when he was the Saints first round draft choice in 2003?

<Georgia defensive line coach Rodney Garner tutored Richard Seymour and Jacksonville's Marcus Stroud, the sixth and 13th picks, respectively, of the 2001 draft, and he says Sullivan could be better than both -- and Seymour is the lone Pro Bowler among the 10 tackles taken in the first round the last two years.>

The Spokesman-Review.com - Georgia's Sullivan is wanted man

Comparisons are good, however, proof of the pudding is performance!

BTW; I hope Meachem makes good on his being selected in the first round, but he needs to prove it on the field...and not in comparisons...IMHO.

Personally, I wish Meachem would just keep quiet and go about his business. All this media hype about his motivation and the rest...does nothing. The proof will come in the form of performance on the field and not riding a bike or on the PS.

In addition to learning from Patten, he should learn from Colston...keep his pie hole shut and prove himself on the field of play!

Hope that the NFL will have a cap for the draft picks forcing the money to the proven, veteran players;

Know there are a lot of potential car salesman posing as nfl frontoffice and scouting personnel (Nepotism, alive and well), and are wasting money of guys who never produce;

I say when you're picked R1 you better be starting by Week 4, Season 1! Or else, why pick 'em...

Personally I think Meachem is going to Bring it this year. This is quiet optimism. I cannot forget his showing against LSU (Katrina season). The guy was just awesome. I think He was hurt a lot more than (NFL Teams)realized. The money issue is just what it is in the NFL (look at Baseball)
No other teams know what to expect from Him and I beleive He is going to surprise the competition somewhat like Colston did. Unfortunately we as fans were disapointed because we needed that second threat that never came. I would have done the same thing if I was Him. Right now he is off the radar for everyone and in a good position to come out with His Best. I think the Saints did the right thing with Him and He will be ready for some payback now.
